I procrastinated too long to get in on pre-order 1 but found a work around for it. ARF Plus and pull the fan, motor, ESC from my F-5 since I seldom fly it. Then a buddy of mine decided he wanted to buy the F-5 so I ordered the Mig 21 fan/motor/ESC set and had a few bucks left over. ;)

Anxiously awaiting delivery of the Avanti S and A-10 as the weather here in NW Ohio is starting to shape up...
I have a question on the build video as to the use of the wing fences. I noticed in the video that they were not being installed and would like to know what the advantage of installing them or not installing them is. I don't remember seeing them installed on the plane in the flight videos either.

G'day tom. Most of the guys that have flown the avanti have said they didn't notice any difference with or without. The idea is to supply a little side force for stabilisation, though again it doesn't seem to need it. (Much the same as sfgs on a 3D plane, just smaller).

Supposedly, on this particular Avanti, the wing fences didn't have any noticeable positive attributes on flight characteristics. Basically, if you like the way they look, then install them for that :).

Personally I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the installation of the air fences as they are more than just side force generators. At low speeds, which is one of the areas this jet excels at, the air fences keep the flow from "sliding" down and across the sweep of the wing which reduces low speed stall and provides better handling at lower speeds. I grant there is probably no difference at higher speeds, but they can make a big difference when landing especially if you have a short runway or don't like landing hot.

I would also like to think that Freewing did some testing themselves and provide them for a reason, especially given the size and shape of them. I will certainly do an A/B test as well but I would guess at a minimum the flaps will be more effective at low speeds given their outline.

I think the primary reason they provided them would be for mostly aesthetic purposely because the Avanti jet is known the have them. The flaps definitely help this jet land slow, very slow. Ha-ha :Cool:

I agree completely

The wing may stall let's say 2mph slower with the air fences than without them. Just because someone flew without them and said they're not needed doesn't mean anything thing to me unless testing at stall speed proves otherwise. Cheers!
