Good to know. I e mailed SmallpartsCNC.com to see what a set of aluminum retract sides would cost. They don't have them on their website, but they do custom work and I mentioned that there would probably be a bunch of us interested in purchasing them. If you have never tried aluminum retract sides, I bought a few sets years ago for my FMS 1400mm P51's and they are awesome! BBD has had hers for probably 9 years and I've never lost a retract. Bent the pin a couple of times but nothing that a vice won't fix.

This would seem to be a great solution to the retract cracking. I'll keep you all informed if I get a response.
Meanwhile, I see that RC Geek is the (for all intents and purposes) the new Alpha (as in Enos). I asked him what's coming down the tubes in regards to 1600mm Warbirds, as in WWII fighters. All he would say is that one is coming, no more info than that.
Let the speculation begin!!

Just installed the new 6.5 mm pins in my retracts. It does require some reaming of the trunnion, but it saves money to not replace the trunnion. Please be aware that the trunnions are stamped "L" & "R", but actually belong in the opposite side of the plane from how they're marked.

Maiden in the books!!The antennae mast on the tail came unglued and , in an old guy moment, I misplaced it. I spent more time searching for the darned thing than flying!!
I finally gave up and came home. Lo and behold, it was inside the airplane. I remember thinking about guys storing the masts and things inside the plane so, I dropped it in there. So now it's glued back in place using E6000 so it never comes off again!

Hey Dan,

I poked the antenna horizontally into the inside of the battery cover.

Wiggled it around to enlarge the hole.

Wicked a little CA (foam safe) in the hole.

I store the mast there when transporting and I always know where it is (In Theory).

Works for me.

Did as I said, ranged checked the poop out of her and tried a flight, not bad, a bit rough on the landing. My gut is to go with the same D/R and Expo that I have on the Spitfires. I also had the old Bearcat out, I love that plane, a survivor of a crash on Muncie back in 2017, she's back in the air and a great og to plane. Proof, I had a good flight and landed her no problem, taxied her in to find that the portside aileron came unglue and was just hanging there. THAT'S a lovable bird!

Speaking of Corsairs, got the antennae wiring done. Found a small clear plug that fit onto the side of the fuse and a couple of springs and there it is. I used 10 lb test fishing line for the wire itself, looks good!!
So, now she's ready for the air (after I range check the poop out of it).
The trouble with investing so much time in these aircraft is that maiden flight gets scarier and scarier!! Sometimes I wonder if it's not better to slap it together and fly it. It's like sticking your toe in the water versus diving right in.
One thing, she'll look so awesome in the air!!

Kind of spent my allowance at Toledo so first I need to re-build the kitty. A big block F-4 sounds good and would be able to handle some extra weight. So many planes and so many more I want!

Again wrong thread.... I will go with it.... Rex I bought the 8s version.. but flew first sorties on 6s. ... then changed ,,to 8,, 8s is a big block Chevy compared to 6s,,,, if for no other reason than flight times.... So I agree with hugh.. if?? U get one

Hugh Wiedman converted to 8S and a gyro (?) and says it's transformed the platform completely.

He loves it.

So, not a definitive answer, but something.

Oh, it's my favorite as a static display EDF as well.

Such a beautiful airframe, to me anyway.

LB is correct, started out with 2 6S F4's and really liked them but the 8S, IMO, is by far better, longer flight times and much more stable, so now I have 2 both 8S. One converted from 6S and the other a new airframe.

On 6S, flew best, stalled less, balanced at manual 192mm. On 8S, flew much better at 202-205mm, never experienced a stall and landed much better. I generally fly all jets at least 15-30mm further aft of manual but the 6S had to fly nose heavy. Additionally I'm using on everything the newer 6-8-10 channel Spektrum AS3X Plus gyros, which are more active and result in consistent, nose up and smooth landings. Can set up 2 gyros, one for surfaces, another for TV units along with a separate nose wheel gyro. Incredible upgrade for gyros. Even turned my somewhat wild F18's into great flying machines.

BTW, that same Plus gyro in my Corsai and Spitfire is also outstanding!!

I am certain the opening canopy mod has been done, so yes, you could add that.

i did not do it, not for the lack of thinking about doing it, but I had done so much already I let the idea go,

I thought to try using one servo with one bellcrank on each canopy and create/desin a linkage that accomplished all the hard work.

Space is always the limiting factor with weight being second.

The pivots would need to centered to each canopy in my thinking, which only allows for a servo either in the rear of the battery compartment of like you wrote incorporated into the canopy/battery cover itself.

That is how I did the Corsair sliding canopy, but I had a lot more room.

That was a labor of pure love for me and she's not going anywhere but the flying field and home again.

You've won with a Corsair, so I'd have to build something new, fresh, and exciting for any contest I'd enter.

Anyway, I have had my 15 minutes of fame and time on the podium, so I'll leave the competitions to y'all.

Should you decide to go ahead with the Phantom, I will provide any help I am able.

So, i like the idea of a group build, just picked up the Freewing T-33 (not a design for everyone I know), but I'd be open to the discussion.

Want to do partial polished aluminum on it, but that is a conversation for another time.

A group build on one model would be a great winter project. Maybe FL will introduce a new model that everyone wants and do a group build on that. It is really nice to have people to share ideas and keep me from sitting in front of the TV all winter.
Dan, The winning part is great, but I mostly enjoy the friendship and sharing ideas with like-minded people. I did mention your names to other people so I felt like it was a group win instead of just me.

If I did the navy version that's the color and model I'd want. All of your mods would be great to add. Just load it up next April and take a spring trip, Elbee.
I would probably order the 6s version since I already have 6s for the Corsair. Batteries soon add up in the larger size.
Good looking pilots. Did you 3d them? Cockpit looks great also.

Not having this model, would a 3d upper canopy frame that manually opens for static judging be designed in the space available then removed for original canopy to fly with? Maybe a complete cockpit tub that inter-changes with original.

Elbee, a year from now Lucas Films will be calling your wife to do their movie work, maybe she would have time to do a group photo.

I've often thought of that in a similar vein. Maybe we all buy the same airplane at some point and mod/build, destroy, create and alter all together.
I would mind offering my painting skills to a group project though, I think it would be pretty cool to say I had a hand (no pun intended) however small in the over all creation of a show winner.
