  • The factory cockpit seemed uninteresting to me. So I decided to make a new cockpit interior. I added a few elements.

These are not kit or 3D printed parts. I made everything myself from what I had in the boxes, and the clocks and switches are photos from the Internet.

        • Wow! Nicely done! I too have enjoyed making my own parts, especially aircraft or spacecraft cockpits.

          • I am looking at getting the "Old Crow" P-51 but I want to change the livery al little bit. Anyone had success in removing water slide decals??

Now in my case, I was going from Iron Ass to Old Crow but same process.

              • I wish to add some red paint to the nose of plane.
Will blue painters tape remove the silver paint from plane after painting?
                Thanks Steve

                • Has anyone found a metal main gear damper set to replace the plastic ones? Had one of the plastic ones break recently in a very uneventful normal landing. Thanks.

I have also had that problem. The strut wants to compress too much and snaps the Damper set. What I have done is take a 5mm solid carbon fiber rod, cut a piece about 1/4 inch long. place it inside the strut under the spring. That keeps it from compressing so much. I haven't had a problem since...

                      • Sadly, we lost one of Americas true heroes last Saturday. Triple Ace Clarence 'Bud' 'Andy' Anderson, at 102 year of age, took his last flight.
So long Bud, hope your skies are always clear and your tanks are always full.

                        • I did not hear that. Thanks for that sad news. If anyone lived a full life, it was certainly Bud Anderson! What scale are those P-51 model pics in your post? They look very nice.

Do you have any plans for a fly-in for June 6? I have two airplanes outfitted with invasion stripes modeled after the real ones that participated in June 6 missions. Let me know if you plan anything, I should be able to make it, especially if it is early before the winds pick up. Would be a good photo opportunity.

                          Cheers

                          • The little one is a 1/32 metal airplane I bought from the Museum of Flight in Seattle years ago, the other one is the Freewing P51. She was at our Mustang roundup.

Maidened the new Spitfire today and she flew like a lady!

Also had BBD out for a Memorial flight for those whom we honor in return for their service. She's usually my go to Girl for Memorial Day as she's by far the oldest flying member of my fleet at ten years of age.

                              • Thanks Dave, I was going to paint the invasion striped on the new Spitfire, but haven't the heart now that I have all the touchups done to it. I'm thinking of doing my E Flite 1200mm Spitfire instead, the stripes are already on the bottom so a fairly easy job. I was really hoping to hear of a Hawker Tempest or even (I dare to think) a decent 2000mm C 47, but oh well.
I have to check out the schedule for June 6th, will let you know.

                                  • After the long awaited! Me and Vern meetup and took to the sky with his new and moded P51! He put a DJI air unit in it for Vid and was testing it ok. So I rode along. Also the music was written by me and composed by AI I hope you guys like it! It seems some people don't like vids of planes. But Vern worked really hard on the project. He's even still working on the vid from the cockpit.

I think his work needs to be seen to give him even more motivation to finish it. He had some power issues with it and over heat on the vid air unit. I tell him to seek out others that have it and maybe he does. But if I can show this vid and have feedback then he could come here himself and ask more.

                                    • Sweet!
A little heavy handed with the dynamic transitions, but very enjoyable overall. Excellent drone chase piloting. Some credits at the end listing who was flying what would add some informative value. That rather catchy tune is now stuck in my head!

Wow thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to get interviews with the pilots I chase but I still feel a little off asking.
I tend to do fades on the cuts. But I thought I should spice it up. Maybe I'll mix the two.
Vern was the pilot of the Mustang and me the drone.

I really hoping he works though the hang-ups and gets that vid sys up! I'll let him know what you said

Lol the music was stuck in my head when I saw a short vid of him flying. So I made it in 4 versions and now it's stuck in yours too. LOL

                                        • Has anyone tried the stock or an APC 16 x10 prop on the FMS 4258 650kv motor? I've tried both and encounter severe vibration at 75-85 % throttle, HRB 4S 4000 60C battery. Props are well balanced. Anything to do with supersonic tip speed?
