During gulf war 1, the RAF aircaft Tornados, Buccaneers etc, operating out of Saudi were all painted a similar colour called.............. Desert Pink.

I did not know that: RAF Desert Pink.

Kwik Update.

I never think a little thing could take longer than a big thing, but it is the way of things in modelling.

Needed to rework the Top Turret mount to the fuselage and figured it was just a matter of printing a circle.

But NO, I had enlarge the hole, then correct some foam surgery and finally design a new base.

Onto Nacelle work and mounting the Cowls.

Hey Y'all,

Another busy Fall Chores week, but I did manage to try my hand at designing the rear fuselage plexi.

Still working on a compromise for the exact shape, but getting there.

Clear resin print at 0.02 layer height for this first attempt.

Doesn't suck, but ain't great.

I know some will just say vacuum-form it and that's a valid point, though I'd like to see if printing in clear is even worth the efforts.

In the end might save some time and allow for more intricate shapes, don't know yet.

More with there is more.

I'm a bum as regards to proper modelling... So just thinking aloud,,, 🧐. Weather printed or vacuum formed,, would a nice coat of clear,, after a fine wet rub ,,improve the plastic clarity.. if U remember,, I cleared a cola cola bottle a year or so ago,, just 4 the excersise.. did make a difference do luv that desert pink,,

Great tip, Craig.

I had thought to do something like that depending on the end result.

And the OEM vacuum-formed parts could definitely use some help, as well.

I will try a thinner wall thickness, as well.

This one is 1.0 mm, so I'll try another at 0.6 mm and see if it is sturdy enough and any clearer after post processing.

We had planned to kayak one more time before the weather turns too chilly, so we'll see.

The experience has been big fun and it's good to have it as a family outing, of sorts.

Well, you were correct again, Craig.

I reprinted the rear fuselage Plexiglas part a little larger and thinner.

The part is still a compromise in shape due to my limitations as a designer.

I did cure the part longer and even set it outside in the sun for several hours.

After a thorough wash and dry, I cured it again with the UV and began a wet sand with 600 grit through 1200 grit.

I sprayed clear lacquer inside and out, then wet sanded with 1000 to 2500 then sprayed 2 more coats allowing it to dry 20-30 minutes between coats.

It is as clear as I am willing go at this point.

The part is pixalated somewhat, which is just the nature of compound curves in 3DP in my experience.

Might need to design curved parts in something other than TinkerCAD, don't know for certain.

In my favor, the learning curve was shorter than expected and will definitely design and print more clear parts.

All in all, I am happy with the result and thank you again for the suggestion of 'clear coating' the surfaces.

Hey All,

I have noticed some chafing on one of my elevator servo leads and a cut on the other servo lead.

I pulled my elevator servos to paint the empennage and I might have done that damage myself, but I am unsure.

I ran my servos through 100+ cycles with no issues, it was reinstalling those that I found the issue.

I have repaired both with heat shrink and some E-6000 at the point where the servo exits the servo body.

Point is, if you have any issues with your elevator servos, I'd start with checking that part of the wiring.

Shades of the Freewing F-18 elevator servo issue, but I could be an alarmist,

I like that this small addition eliminates the shadows created by the servo and servo mount.

This is also much easier than using filler, though that will work just fine, too.

Truth be told, it was/is a real compromise to the aft end of a "C" fuselage.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda, never gets a project completed and the profile is good, so we move forward,

Next is locating, marking, some foam surgery, and installing all the windows in the fuselage, 6 more if memory serves.

Update then.

I know you see what I compromised.

The way to do it correctly is build a plug and Vacuum-Form the clear part.

I have a picture of a woman checking the part for defects at an assembly plant and the part is squarish to match the bulkhead and then transitions into the bubble.

I like the profile shape I have and for now that will have to do.

I did get holes cut for the RH side and window and door frames dry fit.

Next step is the LH side, all clear parts cut, and everything glued in place.

Touch up filler and prime, finish ANA 616 paint color on fuselage

It's fun when things go quickly.
