I agree that for the money it's hard to find better. The HP Mirage is close at $50 more than the Vulcan and the lowly HP Stinger64 at $169 is as good if you add the "for the money" part. I put a 6S 64mm set up in my S64 and it is my highest performance Jet, the only one that has truly unlimited vertical.

Interesting. I fly mine stock in Denver and it has no issues with performance. After about a dozen flights now, I'm loving it more and more. Can't think of anything with better performance for the money.

Oh it already has stellar performance, but why not make it more efficient? This mod also helps with adding flight time due to more efficient airflow to the edf = less power to fly. I also currently reside at 5300 ft up so any benefit is welcome. Actually today a friend brought a radar gun and we measured 125 mph level flight, and a 4.5 min flight time on a 4000mAh 6S (landed at 3.77 Volts per cell). Watching stock videos of the Vulcan, I'd say that's an improvement. Also since I wanted to be able to transport the Vulcan in its box, I am avoiding any mods that will mess with the dimensions of the airframe.
If you do not wish to add it to your airplane, that is entirely your choice! I just wanted to show and share something I thought would be helpful and cool. I'm not saying the stock performance is poor, because it absolutely is not, but there's no harm in making it better! I also noticed you added the nozzle onto your painted Vulcan, and that increases performance/speed tremendously. I didn't want to do that for the reason above, and that it decreases your static thrust. The splitter doesn't do that. I just did what I thought would work best!

Hello all!

I had received a Vulcan for my b-day (today) from my incredible family, and being at a mile up in altitude I wanted to improve the performance but still be able to transfer it (college student) in the box (no external parts), so I spent far too long making an inlet duct splitter! Essentially it goes over the stock splitter (seen when you take the wing off) and it should improve airflow to the EDF. I put one in my 90mm F-22 and there was a very noticeable performance increase so I'm hoping this one goes well!

Well given its stock speed at sea level is 120 mph and at >5000 ft (with the attachment) I got a listed top speed of 125 mph plus I got an extra 30 seconds of flight time going pretty hard than on James' video. Other than speed and time, I don't have other hard data, but from what I've seen I'd call it a great performance increase! Hope this helps :)

My (full size) Mooney goes faster at 5,000ft than at sea level. It's atmospheric physics and can't be attributed to any modification.

IF you had a before and after thrust measurement under the exact same conditions, then I'd be inclined to believe you.

Am I missing something here, just that 4 percent increase does not seem to be a great performance increase, 25% does. Bearing in mind the accuracy of speed recorders and the fact that the air is less dense at 5000 feet above sea level I would have expected an increase in speed of the stock system anyway by around 5% or more . Perhaps you might give this some further thought. The only way to be certain would have been to test the stock setup v the altered setup at the same field and maybe do at least 5 speed runs on each, taking the average and then looking at the results.

Fancy this Vulcan, just need a fun EDF. This Vulcan looks to fit the bill. Just wonder how it compares with 80mm Avanti. The 70mm Vulcan is cheaper and I just want a fun EDF to fly over the winter but is it worth paying the extra and get the Avanti????

Does anyone have a picture on how all the wires are hooked up with the receiver and the blue box? I have power everywhere except the wheels. Only the nose gear operates. I am using a graupner radio that I don’t have a lot of experience with. Thanks!

They fly very similar. I would say they are both as smooth but the Vulcan is faster. The Avanti has gear doors and lights and some like one scheme over the other. Both are really good flyers.

If you already have the batteries for one over the other that may make a difference too.

Just got this Vulcan myself. It's all built and set-up. Just hanging from the ceiling waiting for spring. I had the Avanti S but sold it a couple seasons ago to make room for something else at that time. I missed it but remembering what my Stinger 90 was like, I decided to get the Stinger instead. I just preferred the looks and the way the Stinger flies over the Avanti. Both were excellent airplanes. I'm hoping the Vulcan will be just as satisfying.

So, flew a bit more today, CG further aft, more expo on the elevator, thing flies better now but still feels hella nose heavy.
What are you guys flying this jet at in terms of CG?
