      • ryan what is the stock setting in the esc for low battery just a soft loss of power or was there a cut off then you blip throttle to gain another boost to go around and land. like to know what to expect as this plane looks like it will see the bottom of many battery packs in my hands. i have 5000ma ones ready

        • I'm not sure exactly. It happened fast in my case I may have noticed it coming before it got there. From my limited experience Id say it was slow and not abrupt, however I'm not sure I got there. I was having so much fun I totally ignored my timer. I was flying pretty hard. Also, I know everyone wants to hear the whoosh. If I conserved a little better I would have been fine. It carries its energy very well.

Sounds like a perfect motto for a man who wants to force polar politics into a conversation about model airplanes. I think it is generally against the "trolling" rule, although I don't see political posts explicitly mentioned in the rules.

Anyway, getting back to topic, I saw the new flight video up on Youtube. Thats' some aggressive up-elevator in high-G maneuvers, and it tracks very well. I wonder if it is possible to cause an accelerated stall in this plane. The only other EDF I own is the Freewing Me-262, and it is definitely a possibility there. Seems to me this sport jet is much better at handling high G's.

                    • For the record, even though it's not stated in our Code of Conduct, Politics and Religion is generally a no-no in forum communities as they have proven to be matches and dynamite. Threads with these topics can get heated in a nano-second, so it's best to take those types of discussions offline.

About the only politics we can allow would be anything that is in direct relation to the model being discussed (such as the military movement and use of the A-10 as an example). I will update the Code of Conduct accordingly.

And nothing wrecks a beautiful day at the flying field than a guy trying to push his political opinions and religious philosophy on others who disagree with him.

Please! There's a place and time for that elsewhere.

Sorry had to vent. Now where's that beautiful little jet plane?:Whew:

(Hope that boat has turned around now).

                          • Just noticed on the MRC FW Avanti product page that two full pre-orders have Sold Out! That speaks volumes for the developement, manufacturing, marketing, and support systems for both Freewing and MRC. Great job!

I've been in the hobby for the better part of 50 years. The FW Avanti S and FW 80mm A-10 are the first birds that I have ever pre-ordered, and done so with complete confidence.

Also noticed that the first pre-order for the A-10 sold out within four days! In the words of Pilot Ryan "That's AMAZING!"

There are going to be a lot of happy pilots flying one of these two birds, if not both, in the next couple of weeks:)

                              • Question for the battery gurus on this thread.
Im looking to get a new batch of batteries to be able to fly these birds (Avanti and A10) at the up coming Jet Jam in June. Having 6s and 4s packs, im looking at instead of one 6s pack, going with 3s packs in series but finding that most offerings in that size dont cover some of the higher capacities as the one 6s pack may have available. What are the pros and cons with using two 3s packs as to one 6s?
Having lost a couple of 6s packs to a dropped cell, this is one reason im looking at 3s as i would lose only half of the investment in the flight pack as to the whole package.

That question has been asked before for other models. That is confidential business data so I wouldn't expect to get that information.

If this were my plane (I have the Stinger 90), it normally takes a 5000mah (or more) 6s battery. To series 2 x 3s together and get the same flight time, you'd need 5000mah, 3s batteries. Less than that and you're decreasing flight time proportionally. If you're happy with that, then do it.
If Ryan was getting 4.5 minutes "balls to the wall" flying and hitting the LVC on a 5000mah, 6s, then you'd get less than 3 minutes with 1/2 that. That's quite a handicap - one I wouldn't wish to have, but maybe you're OK with it.

Im not looking to DEcrease my mah but to increase by getting either 5500 or even 6000 but i know, a slight increase in weight and wingloading. If i want the fast responce on the sticks i can easily go down to 6s 4000 for more snappy performance but at a 3.5-4 min flight. In going with the bigger batteries, i was thinking that splitting and making one 6s 6000 out of two 3s 6000 would allow if one cell were to drop or get damaged, im out only half a pack and can replace with another 3s instead of trashing the whole 6s pack. No, im not good at tearing down or changing pack configs.

                                        Hello Sam,
Your thought process is sound....the problem is finding those high amp hour 3S batteries without paying stupid prices for quality ones.
I've done my share of Turnigy's and others but as they die off I am replacing with Admirals and there is your dilemma...........no 3S 40C higher than 3700 :(
                                        Good luck ;)
