  • I didn’t find the roll to be that bad, more difficult to track straight to the radar gun. As I see it if the plane is doing 140mph, in a 15-20 degree bank the rate of turn is less than 2 degrees per second. I only spend about 2 seconds over the runway at that speed. Also the turn radius would be over a mile.

I want to try mine out again but we fly at a club in a public park. I’ll start on 4s. And then go 6s. Hopefully mine will roll less with the wing saddle adjustment and stiffened fuse.

I’m anti mixing anything to the throttle.

    • Yeah?
      Not bashing, just curious why?

I've had many models that benefitted from various mixes, including throttle to elevator, rudder, aileron, etc. We definitely incorporate them full-scale (both big and small planes).

With today's technology, you could fine tune it so well and even throw the programmed mix on to a spare switch/lever in case you wanted to toggle it in flight.

      • I am mostly against throttle to elevator mixes. Electrics don’t always put out the same power at full throttle as voltage sags. I feel it’s better to shim the motor to adjust the thrust line. Or when a fuel plane goes dead stick... if you change from 4 to 6s the mix won’t be right. I think it’s related to airspeed because mine on 4s will roll left in a fast dive. I’m not aware of a full size plane that uses a throttle to elevator mix, but wouldn’t be shocked to hear that Airbus does. Not talking about Mach trim here. I’ve seen many with flap/elevator trim compensation though. I hear elevator mix I think of the Max8. Mixing to the rudder for knife edge is ok in my opinion.😊

I like the Miss America paint job. I once rode in the back seat of her during qualifying. Howie Keefe was the owner back then. We went a lap at 398 mph and he pulled up and called a Mayday. It was great!

        • Can definitely understand your perspective.
My philosophy is similar - tune it as best as possible physically/mechanically (control throws, incidence, thrust lines, etc.) then use whatever ancillary tools to fine tune.

This particular... well I don't want to call it an "issue", but it's there, I'd attribute to torque and not thrust line. The case being made by 6s making it worse than the stock setup. Again, I just fly right on through it and simply rest my finger on the aileron stick a little more, but you could program a mix for say 75% and above incrementally adjust counter roll.

At the end of the day, they're each our models and we get to set them up however we want!
          😎

          Regarding full scale:
Yeah, in bigger stuff we use Mach trim (A/P engaged) and "autotrim" when it's not. It's not exactly a throttle/elevator (or in our case, stab trim), but it is tied to airspeed. The CS100 erm... sorry "Airbus" 220 will give you cues on where to set trims, etc. for a given flight profile/configuration.

If you hand fly (real pilots hand fly ;) you'll find yourself constantly using manual trim anytime you change *anything*... pitch, roll, power, flaps, etc.
The RJ's wanted to pitch down with big power inputs, the underwing airframes tend to pitch up.

          • Did the maiden yesterday. Hand launch was a breeze and flew on rails with virtually no trim right out of the gate, just like my Freewing T-33 and Flightline Corsair. About 2 minutes into the flight, I came out of a dive and added power and it looked like I lost the prop. Managed to get it on the ground with no damage to the airframe whatsoever and discovered I lost not only the prop, but the whole motor was missing! Canopy flew off too. ESC and battery still intact. Motor mount still intact. Not sure what happened. Maybe I over-stressed it by adding power too early in the dive recovery, or the motor wasn't sufficiently secured to the mount in manufacturing. Either way, an eventful and frustrating end to an otherwise great flight. Canopy and motor assembly MIA (likely in the pond adjacent to the field). I was able to order most of the missing pieces, but the canopy and motor are out of stock.

Any thoughts as to what happened? Complete stock setup done by the book, and was running an Admiral 3000 4s.

Motion - when will the canopy and motor be back in stock? Eager to get this back up in the air again. Next time i'm going to use masking tape on the canopy and add some VC-3 to the motor screws.

            • Crazy!
I doubt you overstressed it... I've definitely put mine through the paces and just checked the motor mount. No play at all.

Glad you got it on the ground in one relative piece.

              • sorry about that, good save though,, +1 I don't think it was overstressed

                              • Nice job GBLynden ! Man, that looks like the kind of runway and open space I am looking for to fly my HSD F-16. You're not a stone's throw away but I could be talked into a nice weekend drive here in the next month or two, hint, hint.

                                    • The spinner is not aligned correctly with the front of the fuselage now. I need to take the backplate and propeller shaft off the motor. It is not coming off easily. Is it a pinch fit on the motor shaft. The motor backplate must have moved.
                                      Please help.

                                      • I re-maidened as the Precious today. Haven’t flown a fast plane for a while. Wow! Was windy and downwind passes were insane. Almost gave myself a haircut! 8x8e apc. 2nd flight underhanded it my self even with my bum shoulder. The wind helped. 2nd landing I caught a nailhead on our mat runway and broke off the prop tip. Have to ream out and balance my last 8x8. I have shaved all the nubs off and it feels faster to me. No 6s today. X

                                        • Does anybody know when they are goıng to be back in stock? I'm down to one plane because I put my F15 in a tree a la James style last week. I need a worry-free speedy plane to fly and Havoc is definitely it. But I don't know how much I can wait.
