  • I suppose it would all be based on your Order Number, not the date of order, hmmm. I will post my order number tomorrow. Best, LB

    • Congrats Elbee. Will this be your winter project to scale out?

      • Okay, Ladies, I've structurally assembled my Mitchell Bomber. I really like how everything screws together. The outer wing has plastic catches, for attachment to the inner wing. This is one thing that I've made a mental note to myself to check closely before each flight. It does feel secure, once it has snapped into place, but I am a bit concerned about the plastic pieces. Not hugely, but some. Everything else screws together. Alignment was perfect. I never had to modify anything, to allow it to go together. Easy peasy!

Electrically, I did a couple mods:
        1. I used my own extensions to run the two elevator servo wires to the location where my rx will go. Each will get its own channel.
        2. I pulled the aileron servo connector out of the back of the interface board on each outer wing. I added own extension to reach the rx location. I made a small cutout in the interface board to allow the ail servo wire to bypass the I/F board without pinching or cutting the servo wire. I snaked the ail extension through yhe inner wing and past the inner-wing interface board. Each aileron servo will get its own channel.

The aileron and elevator servos will bypass the blue box, too, and will plug directly into the rx. All other functions I left in the blue box and interface boards.

The ESCs are in each respective nacelle, and the throttle wire and battery wire run into the fuselage through their own ports. I will set these up for differential thrust, mixed with the rudder.

I haven't done it yet, but I will pull the steering servo wire out of whatever it's plugged into and will give it its own channel and trim tab, mixed with the rudder.

I'm calling it an evening. Tomorrow, I'll install the RX and will write my model program (OpenTX Radiomaster T16S, and will run an FrSky S8R witb two xbus extensions to get 16 channels). With the S8R, I will install a battery voltage sensor and a GPS sensor, telemetering the data to the TX.

This model is beautiful! 1.6m is a GREAT size! Great job, Motion RC!!!!

            • jetfool, well, I hadn't really thought about that yet.

I had originally thought I'd start the Tomcat after the Corsair, but that is a longer project with more than cosmetic mods, so more likely a project after this Winter.

I would not want to put anyone in a position to commit to a build or airframe that wasn't agreed upon first.

I have never done a 'group build' of any kind, so frankly, I am open to anything including the B-25 if that's the pick.

If I'm choosing favorites, Rex, I still like the F-86, F-5E, P-38 as these are not too costly and could benefit from a few 3DP parts.

I will build the Mitchell before next flying season, so an additional group-build aircraft would just be icing on the cake

Speaking (writing) of the B-25J, I would like to compliment Fast N Light on his Wheel designs, Bravo Zulu, Sir.

              Best to all, LB

              • Elbee,

The P-38 would be a good one or the B-25. It would be a first for me to have a twin. Still hoping they (Motion) brings out another WW2 single before winter
                Best Regards, Rex

LB, well crap. My order was June 28th at 0824. Looks like I was a proverbial day late and a dollar sjort, though I did pay in full.

                    Elbee,

Thanks for the shout out. It's been a fun little project. Learning a lot by doing the B-25 and the E-Flite 64mm A-10 wheels simultaneously.

Still looking for a few bits of B-25 data. Main & front axle diameters? Main and front axle width (intended to use as the wheel rim width @ axle)? Once I have these I can post the .STLs on Thingiverse.

                    • Flies well. Book CG and throws work. CG could go back but it’s a bomber and stable as is. Tail sit test is a easy CG check. I think it needs more flaps. 9 minutes on a 5200. Looks great and the parachute drop works perfect.

                      • Guys...It's worth the wait! Mine arrived late Friday. Followed the book setup and after watching Wes' video, assembly was a piece of cake. Throws - by the book. Did the maiden today. Five clicks of up trim was all it needed. There will be more tweaks, but I am very happy right now. Tests started on the bench and everything checked out. At the field, there was the range check, taxi test, controls all correct. I KNOW I am lucky to be one of the early birds on this. Very lucky.

My bad on the video title as a Freewing rather than Flightline. Oops.

BTW: Did you know that YouTube allows you to edit the titles of your videos? (You can also modify the descriptions, thumbnails, tags, etc.)
But more importantly... Congrats on your successful maiden!

                          • You guys that have flown this model and landed with flaps, is the manual-recommended couple degrees of down elevator mixed with the flaps a good recommendation? It doesn't seem like much down E with flaps. I've got my B-25 setup with modes, on the flap switch; so, I can trim for flaps up, half flaps, and full flaps independently of each other. I'm just trying to decide if I should manually program a mix to reset the elevator when flaps deploy.

                            • From my post on the other site...

Maiden+ in the book. Book rates work well. I think it needs more flap. Even full is more giving lift than adding drag for landing. Also the book 1mm/3mm elevator comp is a little too much. Balance is good for a bomber, ie a little nose heavy. It could go back 1/8, maybe a 1/4 but it’s a bomber. Very stable at book CG. 9 minutes on a 5200. No gyro…

                              Parachute drop works perfect!

Tail sit test is a easy CG check.

That said I just finished doing some tweaking including adding more flaps and having close to the same angle between inboard and out board. My throw measured at the inside of the inner flap is now 3/4" for half and 1 1/2" for full.

June 27 6:45pm. No cigar. This is why you don’t think if you can or cannot fit another plane in your hanger. Just preorder it and worry about those pesky details later.
