    Thanks, Craig. I'll work on trying to get something to post that is worth uploading. Right now, it's working very smoothly with a tight fit of the canopy/windscreen when closed.

        Yes! It fit Great!! Making a powered canopy adds to time and brain damage, but it was worth it, I think. I think I'll be ready for the maiden sooner than I thought, possibly next week if the weather is good, even though I still have a lot of detailing to do. That will be a continual project.

        • I was unsuccessful uploading the two short videos I made of the canopy closing and opening. For now, I'll just posts two photos in the open and closed positions. I did try You Tube but was unable to come up with anything where I could post the videos on HS. IF anyone has any helpful ideas, I would most appreciate it!

                There was definitely some brain damage figuring this out for this airplane! The last one I did 20 years ago was for a 1/5 scale Yellow P-47M that had LOTS of room in the fuselage to put things in. This had some head scratching moments! I'll take a few pics of the mechanism in case it helps anyone else down the line with similar ambitions.

                        Yes, I was quite impressed with the close and accurate fit. I think you hit it out of the park with this one, and it wasn't overly hard to convert it to a motorized canopy.

                          Yes, I am definitely looking forward to flying it! After getting the canopy sorted out, that was most of the work to be done since I spent over the winter working on the wings and tail so it would be ready when I got the cockpit stuff done.

                          I plan on at least a couple of flights with the shorter stock prop before switching over to the large V3 FMS Corsair prop and hub after that. I figure the stock prop might give me a bit of extra control since it was designed for this aircraft, and I have made sizable changes in it to a bubbletop. I'll do a showcase of photos of the completed bubbletop when I get to that point.

                          I just saw a documentary on the USAF development after WWII. I've been watching it in spurts when I have time to turn on the tv for a while. It stays synched up to where I left it. They talk about Joe McConnell and his record kills in Korea flying the F-86. Unfortunately, as you know, he was killed in one during testing when he was only 32 years old. I read it was an incorrectly placed bolt that caused the accident, which he had no control over. Chuck Yeager repeated the scenario at a higher altitude but was able to recover before he hit the ground. Scary stuff!

                            Joe Mc. was a navigator on B-17 during the war and kept applying for fighters till he got the chance then became a F-86 ace in Korea, then test flying. Those guys put everything on the line because they were the computers of their time. I think the WW2 warriors all had the RIGHT STUFF. I'm sure pilots today have the same guts but the technology today gives them a better chance of success. Next show I'm watching is Strategic Air Force with Jimmy Stewart. He was also a career pilot in bombers in Europe and the cold war.

                            • Hi Rex: good points on earlier and later pilots and the equipment they fly today. We know of a F-35 pilot who is one of the top dogs in the F-35 program at Hill AFB in Utah. He’s related to my neighbor who flew C-130s in the Marines and recently retired from American. Two totally different mindsets. The F-35 pilot is a is very cerebral, plays the bagpipes! My neighbor was much more the hard charging Marine. Very different people and mindsets.

                              • Last night I got all the parts of Hairless Joe put back together again and screwed into place. Everything works! I have a ton of minor things to do before I call it "complete" and that will take several weeks. For instance, I have an order in to Callie for P-47 nomenclature and that won't be here for a week. In the meantime, I plan on doing the maiden on it within the next week or so, weather permitting.

                                I was planning on putting the shorter stock FMS prop on it for the first couple of flights ,but when I did a CG test on the airplane with that in place it was way out of balance, tail heavy. So, I was thinking of having to put some lead weights in the cowl to get it back to proper CG, but then thought, what the heck, let's put on the big FMS 1700mm Corsair prop, instead! When I did that, the CG snapped sharply back into place. When I think about it, I haven't been flying with the little stock prop for years. I'm much more at home with the big prop on this airplane than the smaller one after all these years. So, the maiden will be done with the more scale FMS prop on the airplane.

                                I have a pic of it on the table in the shop as I worked on it last night. I'll be working on various things today and next week, too.

                                The second photo shows the removable cockpit and the powered canopy that James in California masterfully made. He had to make a plug of the canopy/windscreen and evidently that was a ton of work, but the results are excellent and the model can be flown/displayed with a one piece closed canopy or a powered one, like I decided to try. You can see one of the Actuonix linear servos sticking out the front of the cockpit. That was the only place I could think of to put it for a working canopy. It works great. Super folks in British Columbia not far from Seattle and I highly recommend their line of first rate products. Ask for "Ian!" He's the boss, I guess, and he LOVES P-47s and model rc flying!

                                • Dave i would respray the frame outline ,it looks to low and needs to slightly curve upward by the pilot. it starts low at the vertical frame point then upward and then back slightly curved low to the back . i have two canopies on there way to me to examine and will primer one as a part ready to ship ,i never did see the canopy
