  • F4U Aussie,
The Hellcat is overlooked in the modeling community, and I don't understand that.
The model I'm building is from the Wing "Pro- Series" kit that I purchased at Toledo in the mid-nineties, 1/8 scale and calls for a 60-90 engine, 611/2" ws. I have it built to the bare balsa fuselage and foam wing. Instead of the cable operated control surfaces I have installed 17g metal gear servo's for ail. and flaps. The FL Corsair retracts fit perfect also. Will be Electric powered. A battery hatch in front of the windshield will give plenty of room for a 4s batt. from my Tigercat. Plan to model Alex Vraciu's F6F-3 #19, tri-colored.
I will post some pictures as soon as I get started on the P-47 assembly.
Enjoy reading your posts and pictures. Hope your enjoying your flying season.

    Best Regards, Rex

    • Elbee,

Why does making a living and life get in the way of our true dreams of flying scale models thru the years. I have the Jem-co P-47, Corsair and FW-190d. Always wanted the Jem-Co SBD. I have the plans, given to me years age, and if I could find the foam core wings I would build it electric.
I also have Brian Taylors F4U- 1d 611/2" plans, I'd like to build a F2G-2 and have the 3-views. Just need to scale up the fuselage, believe it used the same wing. Alas, too many planes, so little time.

While I have a little more than 14 days until X-Mas before I start P-47. What is everyone working on this winter or hope to get for X-MAS?

Elbee the Nexa Hellcat looks nice, how are you coming on the B-25 lately?

      Best Regards, Rex

      • Elbee,

The days are slowly coming down. I did receive a surprise in the mail yesterday. My lovely chief in command thought a box on the doorstep was hers and quickly opened it up only to find it was a coffee mug, hat, stickers and the VS-3 prop from FMS. So, I will assemble the prop and may weather it .
        Best Regards, Rex

Things that make me go hmmmmmm....

        • Elbee,
Thanks for the reminder. Without you I might have forgot to put cookies and milk out for X-MAS morn. Santa does come down the chimney you know.
Drove to Indianapolis HobbyTown for supplies today. Only hobby shop left in our area. Spent 3 hrs talking planes with customers and owner.

          Until Tomorrow, Rex

I bit the bullet yesterday and began the process of refitting my old Alienware X15 laptop with a fresh Win7Pro OS.
I use this 'puter for all my design and graphics work as it has a BA math card.
Point is, there will be a delay in "The Countdown".
I hope I have not disappointed you or your followers. (lol)
            Best, Steve

        • Me, I'm not disappointed. Sometimes the old things work the best and giving them new life reminds us where we came from. Enjoy your journey!

            • Don't know if that's true. Today I had to move the big box around so the wife could run sweeper, she thought I was moving it around too much, in her opinion.
The days are slowly getting shorter, but I did get the vs3 Hamilton spinner and prop case primed

                • Enjoying the pictures and your 11 days till X-MAS. The pictures show that these warbirds although maintained in good condition show wear and tear that I can use in my detailing. Good work, Elbee

I hope you're getting a smile or two from these as well...

                • Elbee,

I look forward each day to see what you conjure up. Making my excitement to open the box enjoyable during the count down.
Wish more modelers were modifying and posting there builds this winter. Seems like this and other forums are slower this year in showing their progress.
Guess us older guys are a dying breed. SAD!

                  Wonder what tomorrow brings, Rex

                    • f4u ausie,

How is your weather down there? hope your flying a lot. Worked with a great guy that moved from Melbourne to work in the US. He was into street cars and had his 1938 Willys shipped over. Right hand drive and he put a 426 Hemi in it. Beautiful. We became good friends; he moved back home to be near family couple of years ago. He did have a funny way of talking.......LOL
Any new models your working on?

Hope to show my P-47 re-make after X-MAS

                      Merry Christmas, Rex

                      • Elbee,

Who wants to grow up? Retirement is like being a kid again (doing things I want to do) only with aches and pains,

Tomorrow gets me into single digit days. Come on X-MAS morning

Your daily posts are almost as exciting as waking up on X-MAS morning to see what Santa has in a big box.

It's all downhill from now, Rex

Whoa, 42C is 107.6 in the big F. Dang, Son, that is toasty. Stay Frosty, LB

                        • f4u ausie,
I met Bob Glidden at the Indianapolis Drag Nationals in the mid 70s. He could make that Cleavland go. I had a 69 Mach1 with 351 4bbl Windsor, 4 speed and drag-pak rearend. Dad bought it new for $3600. I bought it from him after HS graduation. Rebuilt it w/ Holly carb and hooker headers, it would run.
Club member has the FMS Redtail, it's a beauty. You need to post your progress.

Sounds like its hot down there.

                          Take Care, Rex

                                • Handyman220,

Elbee can probably give the best reply why your not getting the notice. I hope no one is raddled that we are having a good laugh posting these countdown days till X-Mas. Elbee, Davegee, Grossman, f4uausie, myself and others have been posting since I painted, modified and weathered my FL Corsair 3years ago (has it been that long) and I have gained a lot of ideas and techniques working with foam from them. I consider them my best internet friends and feel we are like a lot of guys sittin around watching football and ribbing each other drinking a beer.
Wife is upset with me. She suggested I get our dog a X-MAS present so I asked the manager at the meat market if he had a big bone. I wrapped it up, put it in a box and put it under the X-MAS tree next to my big box Now our dog is pestering the wife to give the present to him now. She's accusing us of being just alike. GO FIGURE!

                                  Best Regards, Rex
