  • I thought it looked a little too red. Trying to do two part mixes in real small batches makes getting the % ratio right critical. I've found it's best to make a larger batch and toss the extra, than have a weak mix especially with critical structural material. Bondo is event tougher because it's not a 50/50 mix.

ID:	98207Yeah I read the microscopic directions wrong. I thought it was 1:1 but not at all. 1" circle of putty to 1" line of red. Worked like a charm.

      • First hit of filler primer after the first round of bondo and sanding. Shows me where all the imperfections are. Not too bad for a first pass. Have some work to do but might only need one more round of bondo, sanding and priming and that could possibly do it before painting when the time comes.

                • Thanks again! I think the end results will look pretty good. Unfortunately it won't have the recessed depth the full scale coolers have (they sit back a bit from the LE) so museum scale is out, but semi-museum scale is the goal which is still achievable. The full depth cockpit Plastic_Aviator has been working on is incredible and I can't wait to get it and install. That cockpit will really be the catalyst for the rest of the build. The 1:5 Pappy will set it off. I may even have to shoot for the swivel head that turns in conjunction with the rudder. So the question then becomes, once she's complete, how on earth will I have the nerve to maiden her???

                  LOL

LOLI know what you mean. There seems to be a trend with me that as the time/money investment on details curve sweeps upward, there is a coresponding declining curve in the number of flights a bird sees, especially on giant scale birds in particular.

                    • Awesome job Todd, yeah the "emotional torque" ratio can be pretty steep on what will be a beautiful model. If you can just get past that first flight and trim out you'll be sittin' pretty! This will be the part where I'm glad it's you, not me. But I'll be standing right there sweating it out with you on that day. Brad

                      • Thanks Brad! I look forward to the day (sort of). LOL

Finished the rounds of bondo and sanding and priming. Coolers are pretty much ready for paint when the time comes. I have a little tiny detail ridge cleanup work but that's about it. Pretty happy with the results!

                                    • Definitely a vast improvement over the stock setup. I see the little ridge you are referring to on the port wing inlet. One more pass and you will have it. Moooooost exxxxxxxcellent!! Brad
