    • I got my Frank Tiano dummy radial today. Wow, it's impressive even before I do a stitch of detailing/weathering to it!

      • That dummy radial looks amazing right out of the box before anything or is it just the way the light is on it. If its not the light then it could almost be installed as is with a few added details. Nice.

        • Nope it's not the lighting, it really does look like that. It's going to look SWEET once all the detailing is complete.

The cylinder cooling fins really set it off. Very "cool":)
Adding push rod tubes and fuel lines would send it over the top. Very nice!

                • You could literally slap some paint on it and it would look awesome...Of course I can't do just that with this girl, lol...

                  • Jake from RCG sent me the updated CAD file of the oil cooler. Much better! The vanes are curved, no ridge on the floor anymore and more depth. They will have the perforated radiator when finished.

                      • Definitely...Like to get them installed, sanded and ready for paint before Chris gets his hands on her for the final build phase...Just in a waiting pattern. Excited to see the cockpit kit that Plastic Aviator's building/painting/weathering when it's finished!

                        • Got the latest test cooler today. MUCH better! Really nailed all the nuances I was looking for. Better depth, curvature, etc. Still just a tiny bit too long but I told him I will just dremel that edge on the wing to fit. My only concern is cracking/splitting the fiberglass. If anyone has suggestions to avoid that I am all ears. Thanks!

Looks like this is going to be a Fall build. Spoke to my buddy the other day and he is starting to make room for the big girl. Family trips and volleyball tournaments are winding down with the end of Summer imminent so it shouldn't be too much longer.

                          • Look really good- I'd only comment that the baffles are too thick.

Yeah you are right but I think I have exhausted this poor guy's limitations and I am fearful that his bill is going to be waaaaay more than I want to pay for these two drop in molds when all is said and done. On top of that, it's not going to be entered into Top Gun Static so I will have to concede on some level. Dang it. But I will still ask...

                              LOL

                              • Well I got my wish. Thanks for the feedback Pogo!

I ended up tapering the vanes at the leading edges to get the .5mm thickness you were looking for. So I can print them and the screened inserts tonight.

                                  • Sounds like it's going well for that part of the project. Always nice to see tangible evidence of progress. Looking forward to seeing the cockpit details. We're definitely approaching the building season in a couple months............almost looking forward to it after a pretty hectic summer with family, friends, and flying wedged in there. Brad

                                    • I should be getting the coolers this week. Looking forward to installing them so I can feel something is getting done! LOL

Chris remains busy so I am just going to work on the coolers and dummy radial for now. I meant to post these...Here's a couple images from Plastic Aviator's Instagram page of the progress...Looking outstanding! Pappy is going to be proud of his office!

                                        • Thanks, I have yet to lift a finger, LOL

Just got the final molds of the coolers today in the mail. They really turned out great. Even the radiator vents look decent. Sorry the photos are poor lighting so you really can't see the detail but it does look great and once I finish them and add them to the Corsair it will look really nice.

Seahawks just may find their way to Minnesota in February!
