Okay Anthony (Plastic_Aviator) sent me updated photos of the full depth cockpit kit he's build and detailed for me. Here's what he had to work with. This is what the kit looked like when I mailed it to him:



And feast your eyes on this man's incredible gift of talent. Talk about museum scale!! Incredibly impressive. I am so honored to have this be Pappy's future "office". Now the "Pucker Factor" for the maiden has officially gone up tenfold. THANK YOU ANTHONY! Your work is simply outstanding!

Love it!!! Doing the scale stuff is what makes the model "alive"... Washes, dry brushing, chipping, fading, pastels, air brushing.... on and on...

Pappy will be right at home in that office. Push the prop through a couple of revolutions to get that oil up out of the bottom cylinders, set the throttle quadrant,and mixture, a couple shots of prime and hit the switch.......CLEAR!! Brad

Yeah buddy! I will need to find a more sturdy canopy. Had the cockpit been stock or not full depth I would have used the stock canopy but this is a work of art that will need to be displayed with a rolling canopy. RCU I think has a build thread were a lot of folks ditched the stock canopy (it's too flimsy) and found one from another manufacturer (I think Hangar 9?)...I will do some digging to see what I can find.

Yeah, I got a notification that you had been looking into that on RCU. I noticed that some people even add a little framing to the canopy for strength and also for pins or screws to go through for the inset rails at the back of the cockpit. I think I saw somewhere on RCU some info and pics of how to make the canopy functional. You might look into that if you haven't already, Brad

Found the spare canopy I needed thanks to someone in the RCU thread...As for the cockpit I have cut the cockpit area out to get it ready for the full depth kit according to the instructions I found on YouTube. I will need to lower the pushrods to make room for the full depth kit. I am going to have my builder buddy Chris take a look tomorrow to see how best to do that, especially since Brad already has it all wired in.

I started work on the FTE dummy radial. Bought some aluminum tubing, hex nuts, copper wire and 14 gauge electric wire to simulate some of the details of the P&W R-2800. Crap this stuff ain't cheap! Won't be an exact replica but I hope it will at least look the part when all is said and done. Brad, I left you an email about mounting the radial inside the cowl. Let me know your thoughts when you get a chance!

Some progress on the FTE radial...Added the ignition ring mounting bracket, pushrod tube bases and pushrods tubes to each cylinder. Next up will be the sparkplugs and wires.

Looking good so far, isn't it amazing how much time you can spend on these little scale details? The good part is that ,hopefully, you and your friends,including me, get to spend allot of time enjoying your blood,sweat, and tears for some time to come. :Cool:Brad

Shape them out of blue foam from lowes.

Thats going to be a little tough. But as rrhandy said you could do it with foam or really small dowel rod.just cut to length. You could even sand taper the end before cutting the length and them sand and cut. Boy that engine with the details and all is LOOKING GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:Drooling: I hope you have plenty of valium on hand for the maiden.:Silly::)
