Got some shots today from my painter. He's been busy with other jobs (I can respect customers with cars and trucks may have precedence over my little hobby hydro, lol)...He's doing a nice job fixing the cowl elements I had a hard time with. Looks like he's started priming. Hopefully it gets painted soon. I'm excited to add the decals and get it back to him to shoot the clear coats.

The boys on the west coast got something for ya if you lacking.....
Aros please join one of the sanctioned bodies IMPBA or NAMBA so that you are covered at sanctioned race sites to run your boat. U may not plan to compete but that way you can show up anytime with no issue and also have some friendly support..

Thanks for the tips!
There's already screws and pins for the tail assembly. If you look at the older photos from pages back the tail was already on. I removed it for painting. Pretty simple setup actually. The vertical tails slide on to these mounts on the hull and are screwed in place. The horizontal attaches by plastic screws. Finally the chrome assembly with the V shaped rods are screwed into place on the vertical tails for support.

Nice! and you have a beautiful angled recess for the turbine stack. If I were you I'd attach it there and not the cowl.Originally posted by Aros View PostThanks for the tips!

Yeah thats going to come out nice!!!!! Your guys are really looking out for you. Your builder did an excellent job and the painter is killing it as well...
You probably will want to rethink racing it and make it a shelf queen LOL!

Do u ever think you will try to build one yourself?

I know, right?!? The cowl already looks way more scale than my first one (not that the first one wasn't nice, this just has the wider intakes and cutout behind the driver's head area that is very scale). When it's all done I might be afraid to run her!Originally posted by Clugh View PostYeah thats going to come out nice!!!!! Your guys are really looking out for you. I'm heading over to check out the progress on my lunch break as he is only 4 miles from me. I'll take more photos then. He should be priming the hull very soon and I imagine next week will be the white base coats. Getting there! My YouTube RC videos:

Nothing really new per se but it was cool seeing the progress in person. He’s a total perfectionist. The cowl comes with all kinds of imperfections from the mold process and it’s driving him nuts lol. He apologized for it taking longer and I said are you kidding? I would much prefer taking longer but going the extra mile versus being really quick and the work being shoddy.
I took these shots today. Nothing really new but again it was cool to see the work up close. Realistically it’s probably a couple more weeks until I can grab it and apply the vinyl decals. My YouTube RC videos:

Alright Clugh and fellow thread watchers I am pleased to report I got the tail parts and cowl back from the painter and spent the past few hours applying the vinyl decals. Overall I think it looks great! From a few feet away it looks damn scale but up close there is work to be done. Holy crap the decals were a b**** to deal with! A lot of compound curves so it wrinkled in some spots. Tons of air bubbles! I went slow and used a credit card to try to limit them but they are still ubiquitous sadly.
By far the hardest area is behind the driver. I am thinking I may have to paint that area instead of decals due to the protruding elements.
Since my painter is a perfectionist I am going to plead for his help to clean up my mess wherever he can lol. Once it’s touched up with his masterful hand and he applies the clear coats it’s going to look sweet! I’ll have the hull early next week (he's painting the base coat this weekend) to put the decals on and then it’s back to the shop for him to clear and the paint job will be complete!
