My B-24 crashed this weekend, still trying to determine what happened. Smooth take off and was doing a normal climb up when the plane about 30 feet off the ground turned almost 90 degrees up. I think it stalled at this point and pitched over and nosed in. All the motors are still attached and the one prop that survived is the right outboard prop and it is in tact. I probably could be a lot of work and repair. But my 90 year dad loved this plane and is one that he can still see flying, so would love to just replace with a new one now, and then use the other as a project plane. Motion RC is out of stock. Done some searches but really haven't found one but on E-bay and the guy seems to be a little sketchy.
So if anyone has a led on a plane please let me know. Thanks so much.

This plane seems to have a penchant for stalling if the climb angle is too steep for the power given. It'll drop a wing and in she goes. I've learned to get up some speed on the runway before rotation and as it gets airborn to keep the climb angle shallow and keep the power on. Only after it's reached your desired altitude and have made the first turn, would you back off the throttle. Be mindful of throttle and airspeed in all turns, particularly climbing ones. Do you use take off flaps?

Thanks. I saw the RC Castle, $180 shipping is a little steep. I did find one on Ebay. A little more than I wanted to pay, but for my dad, it was o.k. What you described is what happened. What I don't know is why it turned up on take off. I slow roll it and assent is pretty slow. The only think I can think is that maybe a loose wire in the elevator control gave it a spurious signal.Originally posted by xviper View PostThis plane seems to have a penchant for stalling if the climb angle is too steep for the power given. Greetings.
I have scoured through this thread for days absorbing as much as I can. I have a B24 and it is built basically stock. I did upgrade the gear with the shock absorbing mains, and have the 3D printed parts (but have not installed them).
My father-in-law was the pilot of the Dragon and His Tail so I’ve tried to model mine after this. I have the decals from Callie and so far it looks great. I never met the man, but my wife talks about him all the time. This plane will be a great experience for my wife and her mother to see flying, or just on display in the garage.
I have a few questions for the group. If the answers are elsewhere here, I must have missed them.
1. I see that many have made the rear turret where it rotates. How did y’all do that?
2. For all three turrets, I know many have made them move with servos, but I did not see anywhere in the thread describing how? Are there any posts showing the servo installation and how that all works? I’d like to do 180° on front/rear and either 180° or 360° on the top.
3. I’d like to add front gear doors. I saw mention of the stl files a few places, but all the links I tried are no good anymore. Does anybody have a good, working link for these?
4. Does anybody have a comprehensive list of lights that were on the full scale J model? I think I may add lights at some point.

3S or 4S will fly this B-24 for bomber scale speeds, its called throttle management. I know there are some that only know two throttle settings. idle and full throttle and I am sure you all know at least a few that fly like thatOriginally posted by borntoolate View Post
Agreed, 100%. 3S for bomber scale speeds.

Always wanted a World War 2 bomber but have been put of because most of the bombers I have seen need to be flown fairly fast to stop them from stalling .Really like the look of this B24 but can it be flown some were near scale speed with out the fear of it stalling it .Nothing worse then seeing a World War 2 bomber being flow around at mach 2 !!!!

Scale Speed ??? MPH is MPH no matter what size plane or vehicle you are talking about. If you could get this 80" B-24 to fly at scale speed which would be over 250 and it stalls at @ 100 mph good luck. This B-24 can be flown SLOW ENOUGH to make it look scale flying. Throttle management is the name of the game if you want to fly anything. SCALE. SPEED is the SAME no matter the size 30 nots its is 30 notsOriginally posted by Captain Moron View PostAlways wanted a World War 2 bomber but have been put of because most of the bombers I have seen need to be flown fairly fast to stop them from stalling .Really like the look of this B24 but can it be flown some were near scale speed with out the fear of it stalling it .Nothing worse then seeing a World War 2 bomber being flow around at mach 2 !!!!

Thanks Wild Man that is good enough for.Just did not want fly the B24 flat out to stop it stalling .Most of the Videos on U Tube of the B24 are flying way to fast .But if you can fly this B24 at some kind of scale speed .That will do me .I have watch loads if videos on this B24 and I notice it can land at a slow speed so it should be OK .Better to have to much power rather then marginal power

As a Private Pilot I have flown many types of planes. This B-24 Surprised me on the second flight.I came in for a low pass with flaps and gear down to see how she responded on throttle up I was climbing out and put the flaps up and it stalled about 30 ft. up, but I was ready for some thing like that to happen. Here is the hat cam video I made of that flight. right around three minutes into the flight is where the stall happens. Since then I have flown the crap out of the B-24 once I got fimiliar with the flght characteristics.Every plane I fly I try to take up and do Power on stalls, Power off stalls, and many other flight conditions https://youtu.be/L9T_ua_8s9gOriginally posted by Captain Moron View PostThanks Wild Man that is good enough for.Just did not want fly the B24 flat out to stop it stalling .Most of the Videos on U Tube of the B24 are flying way to fast .But if you can fly this B24 at some kind of scale speed .That will do me .I have watch loads if videos on this B24 and I notice it can land at a slow speed so it should be OK .Better to have to much power rather then marginal power

Yes I do Evan D. As a Private Pilot I do understand these types of aero dynamics happening. I learned many things from my uncle who was an Aeronautical engineer. Every time I went out to Seattle We would go out and try many different types of characteristics. Every time we went to the field He liked to fly at people would gather around to see what we were doing at that time. So to make it short this was not my first RODEO LOL!!! I have been flying the B-24 for a few years now and still have the Four extra props I ordered along with plane. One big issue I have with the B-24 is the minimal prop clearence she has I have majored to be less then 2" off the pavement. I do not fly of any type of grass field. I only fly it off approved asphalt runways. On the first test flight a slight cross wind caught me a little off guard on landing she dipped to the left and with out touching the wing tip it chipped some of the Yellow paint off the out board left prop I checked the prop after getting home repainted balanced. I ordered the scale aluminum main gear but have never installed them LOL!!! I have never had a problem with gear it came with and have replaced the tires once, after many flights and touch and goes.Originally posted by Evan D View PostHopefully you understand why it did what it did when you pulled the flaps up.

This one flies like a kitty cat, very stable and will slow down nicely. I'm using 2 4S 4000's and get over 10 minutes of flight time as it cruises easily at 50% throttle. Lands with full flaps very slow. Check out my last video on it and you can go to the end to see how slow it will get without stalling:Originally posted by Captain Moron View PostAlways wanted a World War 2 bomber but have been put of because most of the bombers I have seen need to be flown fairly fast to stop them from stalling .Really like the look of this B24 but can it be flown some were near scale speed with out the fear of it stalling it .Nothing worse then seeing a World War 2 bomber being flow around at mach 2 !!!!

Figured it out. Went in a little bit then straight up to where the elevator and rudder wires go. Just used the same channel as those all the way to the rx.Originally posted by paulhlee@Me.com View PostAll your guys that made the rear turret rotate, how/where did you run the servo wire back up the the receiver?
