What most folks don't realize about Foam-Tac(or any other foam adhesive) is that using copious amounts is actually not a good thing.Originally posted by Mad Baron View PostI am really starting to hate this plane. the tail is separating from the fuse even though I used a generous amount of foam tac. I wish I sent it back when I got it.
More goop does not make for a stronger joint and all that extra actually can start to melt pockets/holes in the foam seam.
Best practices for application:
Apply in thin smooth continuous bead on one surface.
Put both mating surfaces together to apply the adhesive bead to other surface which creates like an adhesive gasket.
Pull the mated surfaces apart about 1/2 inch to allow air to start to firm/set glue for a couple minutes.
Re-mate the surfaces and hold or tape together for a minute or two.
If you don't want an elastic joint, white Gorilla is your next best foam modeling friend.;)

I did use a thin bead on the tail part I put it together and pulled it apart and reassembled it but it separated at the top.Originally posted by OV10 View Post

You originally commented on using a "generous amount" thus the reason for my suggestion.Originally posted by Mad Baron View Post

I personally don't use Foam-Tac on structures that are under load like airfoils and firewalls.:Scared:
Want that Gorilla seeping into those foam nooks-n-crannies and forming a solid foam weld.:Cool:Warbird Charlie

Hi Mad Baron, I had the same trouble with the 1600 mm Spitfire, the tail came loose twice! Finally went 5 minute epoxy. I did use Foam-Tac on the Tigercat, just lucked out I guess.Originally posted by Mad Baron View PostNever thought of using gorilla glue on MRC building video they used foam tac. I am going have to fill the gap because I can't afford another $100 for a replacement fuse and tail section hopefully it will hold together.

I finally got a round to putting the FMS motors, props, front strut and wheels on the Flightline Tigercat and converting it to 6S...I’m betting this girl will be fast.
