So nice to see a big SpitfIre Finally! I sold my FMS 1400 mm version after hundred satisfying flights anticipating imminent upgrade release which never came. Have been spitless for 3 long years. So this Flightline 1600mm is truely a welcome sight with fantastic scale details, a robust power system and great value too boot! Can't wait for this one to arrive. Hopefully before President Trump start antagonizing China and raise import tariffs.;)

Question for Alpha regarding the challenge on flying 8 point roll with this FL Spitfire: did you encounter significant yaw/pitch coupling when using rudder? My FMS Spitfire required > 20% rudder to up elevator mix to keep the plane from tucking under whenever large rudder deflection was applied, eg. just applying right rudder during takeoff prevented proper rotation due to yaw to down pitch coupling.
Hi Turbinefancy, welcome to Hobby Squawk! Nice to see you here.

The model rotates cleanly with appropriate right rudder; there isn't yaw to down pitch coupling in that sense, we made sure of that because takeoff is such a critical component of the flying experience. The takeoff shown in the trailer video shows that with little rudder input the model accelerates and rotates predictably without being held down or without any surprise leap. My comment earlier was more a reflection of how overall our FlightLineRC 1600mm Spitfire isn't a pattern plane and doesn't fly 8 point rolls with that level of precision. Four point rolls are fine, which I think is the most points most warbird pilots will fly with a warbird model like this. Overall the model flies most like our FlightLineRC 1200mm Bearcat. Difficult to stall or overcrank throughout any of the normal flight envelope, and overall very easy to fly. The Spitfire's narrow landing gear stance being the most significant difference in terms of handling..

    • Alpha do you know when they will make the P-51D from Flightline everyone assumes it will only be a certain amount of time but they have produced many other plans without producing everyone's favorite FMS free Wing E-flite please let us know anxiously waiting

      • Beeg is correct. The model shown is the final production foam. The only thing we're waiting on is the paint masking molds to be completed, then we can finalize the production run. Stay tuned on this thread for more information as this develops. It won't be too long now.

Welcome to Hobby Squawk, Justin K! Our FlightLineRC brand is geared toward more rare aircraft or at least a rare size. About half of our releases are "common/popular" planes (Spitfire, P-38, Bearcat, etc) and the other half are where we try to push the envelope with more rarely modeled aircraft (Ta-152, La-7, Tigercat, etc). This Spitfire falls into the former category of "common" birds, so the next one will most likely pull from the latter category of "rare" birds. Alternating like this helps to offset the risk of the untested aircraft/sizes. I don't plan on doing a P-51 for quite a while. While we all love a good Mustang, there are plenty of Mustangs out there on the market already, and meanwhile there are plenty of worthy aircraft that haven't been made even once that we'd like to bring to the market for the first time in foam electric before we do another Mustang, Warhawk, Thunderbolt, or Trojan.

We'll see what the future holds ;)

          • Thank you for responding Alpha I own the la7 the f7f tigercat and a very large collection of all kinds of War Birds over a hundred to be exact or close to I fly helicopters Jets of medium to large scale and on several FMS free wing E-flite and other various brands I truly love the build quality and performance of the new flight line series and others at our local Club absolutely love the P-51D I personally all seven of them in different sizes from different manufacturers I think it would be a giant mistake not to bring out one of the most popular common warbirds in the flight line series please keep us in the loop and also keep this idea burning in the mind

            • Some of you have been asking about a pre-order. Ideally, we do not want to start a pre-order until production is complete and the first shipment has left the factory. We anticipate this will be March (4-6 weeks from now) when the pre-order starts. I need to hurry up and get my F7F going so I'm ready for this plane when it arrives (currently snowing here).

                • 2000mm maybe for each wing! If it's a 4 engine bomber I would like it to be as large as foam construction allows. With the new "Hybrid" wing construction I wonder what that is? Maybe 2500, 3000-3500mm total wingspan? I pay $600-$700 for an extra large bomber.

                  • So far I have never owned a Spitfire, just havent seen one that either looked good, or was big enough ...this one fits the bill. It'll look great along with my 1700 warbirds.... Im curious, just for s/giggles... so far ,the Flightline birds have been top notch compared to the FMS warbirds I have...I know the P51 and Corsair have been done to death...but any chance FL will ever pursue them with what they have to offer?

Alpha said earlier today on post #143 of not likely (paraphrased his longer explanation) ;)

I don't want to say never but they really have been done to death (like you said). Unless we can bring something substantially different or better to the table, I'd rather not do it. As an enthusiast, there are loads of planes on my list which don't currently exist anywhere. The F7F was the latest plane we did which has been at the top of my list for well over 5 years. It took a little persuasion to get it done but it turned out fantastic. While I was the one providing the persuasion on the F7F, I was the one who had to be persuaded to do this Spitfire - lol. Now I'm super excited for it. At any rate, your feedback is noted.

                            • Why would they build another P-51 when they have my Concorde to develop? ;)

                                      • Looking good, thank you for posting those, Xplaneguy! Too bad we had to cancel tomorrow due to weather, but I'm looking forward to flying this Sunday's event at Apollo. Will the Warbird Squadron be there? Spitfires escorted B-17s over Monte Cassino, so we could still say it's historically accurate, haha.
