  • Yeah, hopefully cutting the former doesn't cause any structural weakness there or is that former supporting the floor of the existing cockpit opening? Been awhile since I've seen it. Also, there is a youtube video on how to install that cockpit by either Landrel Brown or Tysplanes....that's who made the cockpit kit. You can even call him. I think there is a phone number on the package the kit came in or on his website. He may be of some help on that. Brad

    • Good idea, I should contact him to see how he lowered his. The former is U-shaped that butts up against the fuse floor and sides. Doesn't run across where the floor of the cockpit will go. We would likely cut that center piece where the pushrods are going through the wood and lower the whole thing and re-epoxy...

      • That should work and still maintain some lateral strength. Brad

        • That reminds me. While your changing the location of the pull-pull cable tubes, don't forget about replacing those cables with the new black ones. You may recall that was going to be the next thing I did if I had kept the Corsair. Pretty sure I gave you the new cables along with everything else when you were up to pick up the "queen of the trip". Brad

          • Thanks for the reminder! That would be a great time to replace those cables. I am almost positive you did give us the upgraded cables. I will check to be sure.

I got an update from my 3D printer guy who did my coolers for me. Here's an updated CAD rendering of the mag and distributors with more surface detail....Should definitely look the part once installed!

            • So is he going to make that part for you? That would be pretty handy...and cool! Brad

              • Yeah he's already agreed to develop those pieces hence the 3D rendering...Should really finish off the dummy radial quite nicely!

                  • Thanks Dewey, I feel lucky indeed! I've wanted a giant scale Corsair for many years. Thanks to Brad the opportunity arose and I cannot wait to get her ready to fly. I might have to take a bottle of Xanax when I maiden but whatever. LOL

                    • I've always disagreed with the adage that "things happen for a reason" but in this case, it's hard to deny. And then the arrangement I've made with 70ragtop which was kind of a spinoff from Aros and I..........what are the chances???? Brad PS. double dose for both of us!!

                        • I cut the canopy but it's so flimsy I am going to buy the upgrade after market canopy VQ sells as it's made of much sturdier plastic. This is just a trial fit. I am so stoked to see the cockpit installed, I can't wait!

                          • Hey Todd, it seems to me that someone was offering a canopy frame as an overlay to the canopy "glass" . Hate to leave you hanging but you might do a little research on that. The Yellow Aircraft P-38, for instance, comes with a canopy frame and as you have seen for yourself from 70ragtop,it looks pretty cool. Just a thought....it might also help with sturdiness for a sliding canopy. Brad

                              • That's the one. I've looked at so many sites during the research phase that I ran out of space for notes!! Looks like allot of work but should be awesome and well worth the effort. Brad

                                • Got the mag and distributors in the mail today. Look great! He also created a crank case (I was just going to use what I put together) which is a little too small so I am going to see if he can increase the diameter for a good fit. Here's a shot. I had to tape the pieces on just to get a quick look...It should look pretty sweet when it's all done.

                                    • Thanks Brad...I removed the original crank case and put the new 3D printed one in its place. Pretty much done! Looks really nice in person!

                                        • Yep used your idea to cut a small piece out of the former and will epoxy it back in once the radial is in for good. Yep, now everything behind it is next! :)
