  • Okay I have been doing some research on the proper color and it appears Testor's does not make the color I would need in a spray can. Flat Sea Blue is a close match but they only sale it in those little jars not in a spray can. So I bought a jar at my LHS yesterday and airbrushed it on the canopy to get a sense of the color. It looks to be the color I want to go with. Now I will need to find a close match in spray form as I am sure as hell not about to paint the entire Corsair using an airbrush, lol...

In 1943 and later the colors used were Semi Gloss Sea Blue, Intermediate Blue and Insignia white. But look at this color chart and you can appreciate the confusion since there are various shades of these colors:

So anyways here's Testor's Flat Sea Blue painted using my airbrush...

                    • That's awesome work but 1) I am an airbrush newbie 2) this is a giant scale size and 3) even doing just the canopy was a chore and looks like crap up close. LOL

                        • Been seriously considering the 1700 mm FMS Corsair as a paint gun project, but have my concerns about it being an older model and underpowered. Any thoughts on this??

                            • There was talk on one of the 1700 mm FMS threads that it might, in fact, be coming out with the 360kv even though it doesn't say so on the website. Apparently one of the guys got a Mustang and the stock motor was a 360kv??!!

                              Anyone have that happen??

                              • Great bird (1700mm) but it definitely needs a more powerful motor...360kV sounds about right. Wake that girl up!

                                        • Oh I see...And they don't leave streaks?

As for my airbrush I should clarify. The one I bought that came with the kit is junk, I can tell. Perhaps if I invest in a top end airbrush I may change my mind. Can you get good flow and range with a good airbrush? The one I have doesn't seem to be very accurate nor much flow even when I increase PSI.
