Getting ready to upgrade the power system in my 8s 90 F16, going with a Schubeler fan and mild motor staying 8s. Hopefully will have her updated in a few weeks I’ll keep y’all up to date on how it works out

I’m happy to share my set up but I don’t run flaperons just tailerons. Grass field am she alphas nice enough to slow down just fine for me, I don’t even hook up reverse thrust, one thing I had to do is reduce gains to get rid of the oscillation. Been slowly moving CG back went from 3min flights coming in with approx 20% left where I am now 4min coming down around 40% left running SMC standard 4400 LIPO’s. Be testing SMC 49/4200 packs next week

I fly the 8S version with the following battery and have 4 of them:
Turnigy nano-tech 5000mah 8S 65~130C LiPo Pack with XT-90

A good 4 minutes of acro flight time

EDF-Jetpilot and shortround91 if you're using/or going to 8S, I have to recommend the SMC V2 8S HiV 5900 packs. The Turnigy 8S 5000 pack weighs in at around 1070 gr, while the SMC V2 5900 weighs in at 970 gr, 100 grams less. I can also guarantee that the Turnigy is no where near 130C and is definitely less than the SMC pack, and the SMC packs provide substantially more power, have a long life cycle and weigh less. I use them now exclusively for 6S & 8S (after going through some 40 different brands) and I'm never looking back. You can see the independent testing results comparing all major flight pack brands on the RC Group threads done by MCS Guy! I hate to say it, but the SMC's are always at the top of the list and the Turnigy's are in the middle-bottom-to not in top 20.

The price is a consideration of course, and the Turnigy 8S is around $70 I believe, while the 8S SMC HiV V2 is at $132 (although Danny is now running a Thanksgiving sale with 5-15% off, with free shipping over $100). I'm using the 8S 5900 in 2 F4 Phantoms and in my older V1 F-16 and they've never flown better, with flight times well over 5 minutes. I'm also using the SMC 8S HiV V2 4400 in my EuroFighter and the SMC 6S HiV 5900 packs in everything else from 6S EDF's to all my WWII prop planes.

I'm not a paid advertiser for SMC (wish I was), but IMO, he makes THE best flight packs out there and has the best customer service, replacing any pack within a year if puffed or a single cell going high in the IR. Never had a puffed cell in 3 years though and only one pack with 2X IR after 50 flights and giving it to a buddy to fly who drained it to zero when he couldn't land because of a dog on the field. Even so, the IR only went to 3 in one cell (still below other brands best IR). Not only do they have the highest output and lowest IR'S (8S IR's have consistent cell IR's of 1-1.1mohms-unheard of) but also the lowest weight for comparable mAh packs. Prices aren't cheap, but well worth it. So if you ever get a chance to try one, you may never go back to anything else. I'll get off my soap box now, just something to keep in the back of your mind about flight packs.

Depends how they define "C". There is no standard, so marketing can define it however they like. 130C suggests to me that they want you to believe the pack, wiring and connectors can source 767 amps (5.9 x 130) without damage, which is absolute nonsense.

After reading your report, I really have to check that out. Unfortunately, the SMC is not available in Switzerland, so I have to find a partner who delivers to Switzerland in Europe. But I'm interested and I'll give it a try. Thank you very much for your tip.

SMC lets you order their packs with whatever connector you want including the XT90 Anti-Spark. Too bad you may not be able to get them in Switzerland, but just send an email to Danny from his website and he'll get back to you quickly, his customer service is outstanding.

Yes, thanks for the info. I've already been in touch with DAnny and he's looking into sending it to me in Switzerland. He's calculating the price for the transport.
You can sit on your MIG 29 and deliver the things to me... then you'll fly as a pilot yourself and not just first class, but like the Arab on the carpet on the plane with a fantastic view! :-)

Just asking I have an 8s FMS system from my old Eflite 90mm vioer,
- Motor:: 4075 1500Kv Multi-Poles Inrunner Motor (Installed). Think it will work...

I am aware that the fuse may need to be augmented fort the FMS fan.

Just wondering if teh 1500 KV would work? As the Stock 8S Freewing is 1350

They have different fans. Each fan needs it's own speed to produce X force.

Respectfully I am not sure I understand your answer. I have seen success with FMS solutions installed in Freewing models before.
Just wondering if this would be different. I was getting a lot of time on my Viper on 8S and they are both 90mm.
I also realize its not ALL apples to apples.

Simply saying like a propeller, motor and ESC need to be matched the fan in an EDF needs to be matched to the motor. The various fans in the FreeWing and FMS EDF units have different count blades and different blade shapes so it varies widely with different combinations.
