What kind of paint do you use? Do you paint right over the original surface. What if any prep is needed before painting?

    Thanks,

    • Hi all - I have Avanti S V2. As you know this is a little different beast than the V1 which I also owned.

I attached my esc settings for the V2. Wanted to see if you agree with what I have. Thanks !

RudyD54 set all my thrust reverse to the bind button, when depressed goes full throttle to reverse, then released and you're back in forward with control by the throttle stick. Works great, like hitting the brakes and don't have to use throttle stick.

                • Hi Everyone and Happy New Year, ^^

I'm in the Avanti S club from this new year and unfortunately i had a small problem during my landing, so...

i have a question for you i need to replace my flap control horns but it seems there isn't a spare part. Could you suggest something else that could fit It.

They are for the Avanti S V2

                  Thank you!

                      Comment

                      • The original yellow didn't come with pilots but the canopy was tinted. A few wanted clear canopies for FPV, maybe that's why it's clear?

                        Comment

                        • It's just a bit strange to see a clear canopy without a pilot figure. Easy fix but feels unfinished from factory.

                          • Clear canopies can look great when painted from the inside. Same process as RC car bodies. Three coats; each on top of the last one 1) transparent base color (eg blue, yellow, etc) 2) chrome/silver 3) gloss black
My examples are pretty basic, but there are some rather exotic colors out these days.

                            • Not getting along with the V2 red/gray trim, I figured the least I could do was buy a V2 in yellow! I wasn't disappointed. Pluses (compared to v1):
+Ball links are much better - slop free
+new NG doors are a big improvement
+finish is improved, foam is better
+12 blade fan is quieter, but I couldn't detect any increase in speed (radar 117 s&L, 131 dive)
+ deco is nicer, lies flat, not sure I'll clear this one, not needed
+ servos are "good enough", seem to be improved
+ fit of the canopy is perfect (the old canopy is slightly different)
+ In about 5 flights, could not detect any roll/pitch coupling, that's pretty rare. Great design. (I don't use the wing "fences" to avoid transport issues. No need.

                              Minuses
                              - clear canopy seems off-the-mark (how many FPV guys vs reg. use?) Fixed with Tamiya smok
                              - no pilot? Solved with old donor pilot
                              - the aircraft sits at substantial negative angle of attack. I know this was done to reduce bouncing (which it might) but it creates another problem: model will "jump" off unless extreme care is taken to slowly raise the nose. the V1 NG would not fit without lots of mods. Improved by adding a 3/16 plate under the NG to lengthen - now -1 degree AOA. Also, I take off with high gyro to help it come off smoothly. To me, this is a weird fix for bouncing landings - that could be fixed by technique (land slower) or better yet, have struts with dampers - the real fix. But cost is the issue here for sure.
                              - color of your v1 yellow parts won't fit V2 - it's darker, but still very nice
                              - horns now have extra reinforcement through the top of surfaces. I never heard of the old horns failing, seems improbable. Another head scratcher.

I installed a 637T with Plus and it flies really well, very locked in. Am grateful the servos are good enough - have been replacing a lot of a competitor's servos in other models, no need with Freewing. Kudos guys. Bought it with the idea of putting a turbine in it, but it's so much fun as an EDF I may have to re-evaluate!

Do both turbine and EDF! Both huge fun and great flyers! my turbine has an X-45 and was my first conversion. Flys much the same as the EDF except throttle response is a LOT slower and... with the little turbine idling at 60K RPM, getting the model slowed down for a bounce free landing is a lot more of a challenge than with the EDF! Whatever you do, enjoy the model!

Photos below are my V1 Red Turbine, V2 Yellow EDF and V2 Red/Gray. EDF..luv 'em all!

                                • Hi guys

getting back into the hobby after a couple of years. Im getting ready to maiden the avanti v2 having had the original in the past.

Are you guys using the cg marks on the wings or calculating 105-110mm inverted?

Their cg mark does not seem to be 105-100mm from the leading edge.

Im getting it to balance at 110 inverted but not using their cg marks.

I have a 4000 admiral all the way to the front just a tad past the battery tray-does that sound right?

                                  thanks!

120-125mm makes it fly way better (easier landing, more neutral inverted). The manual CG is way too nose heavy.
Throws in the manual are more on the "drill speed" side (had to tame it down to my liking).

I have a bunch of 6S 2650 35C and 6S 2700 40C packs. Would two of them in parallel be sufficient for this plane? Just wondering about the C ratings.
                                        Thank you.
