I masked off the whole cowl and painted it white. Then used a combination of vinyl decals and painted black squares. Then a covered everything in a satin clear coat.

How/what did you use to mask the cowl?

It’s approx 3/32 para cord with 2 springs on either end.. a bit thick I know but wanted it to hold up well.

SanExup It is a good idea. I can airbrush a lighter green in areas where I want it to fade then put a very light flat coat on the whole plane. I think I see if it flies first 😉 then do the extra work. Thanks buddy

Tolga, I apologize if you already know this, but you can apply a really thin coat, over the semi gloss, with the flat to knock down the sheen. It probably won't do anything to restore the green. But I definitely have top coated gloss with matte for that same reason.

Assuming you used water based poly or acrylic, or polycrylic.

quitcherbitchen thanks mate, appreciate it. I had a great dilemma when it came to clear coat between flat and semi-gloss. I must admit I am quite disappointed how the semi-gloss darken my green, masked the light fading of the paint effect and came out shinier than I wanted. Just have to wait natural weathering to take its course. It has been a big learning curve and a great journey.

Haha, believe me I am done customising this plane. There is nothing left to add.

ID:	308350 Just finished redoing the "White 14" scheme on my eflite 190. I just couldn't take the "polka dot nightmare" that came out of the box. I completely repainted the entire plane including struts and wheel wells. I noticed that the replica scheme HH patterned the model after was lacking the fuselage green of the original as well as improper coloration. I matched the RLM 74, 75 and 76 colors provided in a Monogram German colors paint chip book with samples from Lowe's. I ended up repainting the wings as well. Graphics are from Callie and I followed it up with a light semi-gloss clearcoat. I refrained from heavy weathering as weekly flying seems to accomplish that just fine. Click image for larger version
