Got the crank case "cranked" out today. Here's the steps...

1) Mounting the dremeled spinner onto the existing crank case.

2) Bondo and sand to remove the seam line between the two.

3) Prime, bondo missed spots, sand, prime and repeat until smooth.

4) Paint the crank case and think, "Hey, this radial is starting to look pretty decent!"

Delivering the big girl to Chris this weekend to get the final build process started! Really excited to get the process going. I will document as much as I can but Chris will be doing a lot of the work on his own when I am not around so I will take photos as much as I can. If anyone has specific questions about something during the final build phase just let me know and I will do my best to get the information (and photos if necessary) from Chris.

After doing some research I've decided on which VMF-214 Pappy livery I am going to go with. As many of you know, the VMF-214 didn't have their own personal planes, but swapped and shared based on whatever was available. The ones that Pappy was known to fly in (besides the ubiquitous #86 "LucyBelle" which was more of a PR photo op than a Corsair he actually flew on a mission) was #740, #883 and #915. I've decided to go with #915. This was the one that Pappy was shot down in on January 3rd 1944 (and subsequently captured by a Japanese submarine and where he became a POW for the remainder of the war) but not before shooting down two more to boost his kill score to 26.

It's going to be a fantastic thrill to get her scaled and weathered to the best of my ability to honor Boyington and the boys in the VMF-214. But the final detail work and weathering will have to wait until after I maiden. I've learned my lesson!
