  • Yeah honestly Brad I didn't see any issues with the ailerons myself but I guess Ed saw something we didn't?

    • Hey Todd, how goes it with the "Queen"? I have accomplished nothing this summer so far on the P-38. Hoping to at least get some taxi tests in but still having problems with programming. I need a block of time to work things out but that just isn't happening right now. We have a new puppy we're trying to train which is taking up any spare time I might have had. Anyway, hope your having better luck.

      • Hey Brad, I spoke with Ed last week...He's currently working on the cockpit install and fixing the elevator hinges...Somewhere along the way the travel has been reduced to nill. He is shooting for the end of this month or September. I told him I much prefer quality over speed. I've waited this long, another 8 weeks or so isn't going to bother me one bit. Hope you get some time alloted for your gorgeous P-38! Can't wait to see her in person! Hopefully a Spring 2020 maiden at your place is in the cards!

        • Spring 2020 would be very cool! Or even Fall 2019. I'm all in brother. Hope the travel on the elevator gets worked out. Not sure why that is happening. That's the last surface you want to have limited travel on for sure. Meanwhile, I'm hoping things settle down after I get back from Reno in mid September as the puppy gets older and the invisible fence is up and running. My wife thinks the puppy is too young to train her on the fence 'til she's 5 to 6 months old. Meanwhile, we don't dare let her out of our sight with the road being just a couple hundred feet away. She likes to follow her nose allot. Anyway, hoping to start getting some time in on the P-38 or anything else for that matter.

          • Well good luck with both the puppy and the P-38! I'll post updates when I get them. He mentioned maybe taking some photos so we'll see.

            • I am only getting about 20mm of travel on the elevator when 30mm is required. To correct this means ripping the stabs out to get to the robart hinges and replace them and re-align..But I am almost out of time as I have promised Todd.....So I am leaving that alone for now, unless Todd decides to have it donw. My, this is really a heavy plane.

              • Hi Ed, if you don't mind I would appreciate it very much if you can correct the issue...I don't have anyone else I can go to for these kinds of things. Please don't worry about being "out of time" that you promised me...I just want the model built correct and ready to fly whenever that time comes. Unless you mean you need it out of your garage, I can understand that, but otherwise please don't be concerned about any kind of delivery date.

                • Good decision Aros. You never want to cut corners or settle where the correct set-up and soundness of an airframe is concerned. Especially on a giant scale model.

Amen! Ed is a fantastic builder and I know he wants to deliver a great built model for me, I just don't want him to feel pressured for any kind of time line. I've waited a couple years now (not any fault of his of course, he took over the build after my friend no longer had the time), a couple more months certainly isn't going to bother me one bit.

                            • Hey Todd, you might try seeing what others have said who have flown this bird on elevator travel...... Like RC Universe or RC Groups?

Hey Todd, just wondering if this was an issue before the cockpit floor was added. If not, you might have to do some checking on the source of the bind? I never actually measured the amount of travel at the time of assembly but it seemed like more than enough. Hidden control surface connections are such a total pain but look so much better in the end.

                                  • Yeah it was before the cockpit was ever added. Chris had pointed it out to me long before it ended up in Ed's hands. If memory serves (and it rarely does anymore, LOL) I think one or more of the hinges were glued in a way that it made throw limited as one side of the stab where the hinge points are is rubbing together thus limiting the throw travel. Ed would have to be the one to comment as he's dealing with it now but I think that was the problem. Perhaps when you initially glued in the hinges everything worked and looked good but maybe over time and temp changes it warped a bit? No idea, just spit-ballin'. No matter, we'll get it resolved I am sure.

                                    • Yeah, I definitely dry fitted everything before committing to the epoxy but as you say, something might have warped or slid into a parallel universe like where your socks go in the dryer!
