    • No flying today but Thursday was great. Had my favorite warbirds out as well as my old faithful Pandora. She's still number one on my radio dial, Big Beautiful Doll is number two, they've both been around since the beginning 8 years ago and still a lot of fun to fly.

      • This is probably my favorite thread on the Squawk, so I’ll do my best to keep it rolling. This was Wednesday, overcast but calm winds. Flew some of the planes that aren’t getting enough exercise.

LB, it is a completely stock 1400mm FMS Zero that I purchased used, about two years ago. I run a 4s 4000 in it, and it is probably the nicest flying warbird that I have. Confidence inspiring flight characteristics, much like an old Kaos or Dirty Birdy. Makes me want an BIG example of the A6M3.

            Cheers!

              • Today was Training Command Day! Upgraded the T-45 power system to the “Hugh Weideman Hotrod” 4068-1835Kv inrunner setup. Definitely makes for more grunt in the vertical, and sounds terrific.

That's the Ticket!! At those prices, we're keeping MRC in business so glad I'm not the only "grunt"! That fan definitely likes a higher C battery, so if you haven't tried them yet, give the SMC 6200 40C (tested out to that actual C, unlike any other battery I've tried) at 814 gr. Or their 5300 40C which weighs only 684 gr. Not to sound like an SMC lobbyist, but they are definitely the best batteries I've ever tried out, actual C and weight wise. I'm in the process of selling all my other brands at deep discounts just to clear the storage bins from "dead weight".

I saw a while back your C rating review/comparison write up and decided to checkout your SMC 5300 40C recommendation.
I bought 2 of them just recently but wouldn't ya know it that the weather here in upstate NY has gotten funky and haven't been able to go test them out in my 1400 FMS Pitts.
Anxious to see how they go

I definitely think you'll like them. For me and another pilot at our field we use them in the Mig 29, nice high C and low weight allowing for battery easy battery placement in front and rear (avoiding the middle bay) to get a more rearward CG. I also use them in my SU-30 because of those say issues. Let me know what you think when you get a chance to test them in flight. For a simple comparison to the say the Admiral 5000 50 C and Roaring Top 5500 70C and the Admiral 6000 Pro 50C, here's the test results:

(All of them tested fully charged, balanced and conditioned and tested a minimum of 8 or each brand)

This evening took out the XK A1200 motor glider for a sunset flight...

                        • Didn't get any pictures this weekend, but I got out with the Sebart Avanti & the Blackhorse Gilmore. Two of my favorite planes!! Put on 10 flights between the two planes. It was just a fantastic weekend to be flying in November!

Also helped one of our young club members setup a new E-Flite FW-190 and helped em do the maiden. It was just great to see a young pilot complete a successful maiden on his first warbird.

                          • Weather was just right this afternoon to get a few flights in before it turns bad tonight into tomorrow. Wind and cold is headed this way. The Gilmore got 3 15min flights on this afternoon! It was fantastic!

                            • Im warbird lover ,, but the gilmore,, previos post r an awsome pretty plane. But what did u fly .. no crash today... o boy.... we had lots of rain so my industrial area runway was short... no probs ye ye,,, instead of the normal gentle acceleration ... i went , a bit hard..... mmm wow those props r big.... not enuf rudder etc.. upside down. Quicker than u can imagine... so my baby twisted a wing,,, looked nasty... i have a spare wing,,, but as often the case , wrong side....... pulled it apart ,, a couple very firm twists to realighn the aluminum spa. Until the foam matched.... looks in shape to me.... have taken lots of mesurements... cant beleive the internal stucture of these foam planes....
Would have been sad if it was balsa

                              • Maidened my new Skynetics Shrike. This is an excellent motor glider! I totaled my first one back in early 2020 and then had a long wait. Snatched up three more with a bunch of spare parts this year once they came back in stock.

Thank you MotionRC for all these cool toys!

                                Here's a shot from yesterday's maiden...

                                • We got a nice day today to everyones surprise. I took advantage of it and got out with the Blackhorse Gilmore for a few flights!! What a fantastic day to still be flying in Montana in November. The Gilmore is now at 48 flights for the year since I put it together this spring. If the weather holds I'm going to try and get to 50 before winter hits.
