You guys had me second guessing what I did for my F-14. I upgraded to the FMS Pro fans myself but I couldn't remember if I had replaced the ESCs. Took a look and I'm relieved to see that I did put 100's in there.
-
Unfortunately, you'll need to upgrade to 100a ESCs. I ordered the ESCs for the MIG-29 and replaced the 80s. If you fly conservatively, you may be able to keep the 80s, but I actually hadn't tested that setup. Everything I've seen shows the 100amp ESCs are the way to go... I believe it was pulling around 96amps at full power.Originally posted by TAG-teacher View PostWill the current ESCs handles the FMS 2100KV motor upgrade or do the ESC's need to be upgraded as well?

It has 80A ESCs. You'll want to upgrade to at least 100A.
Robbie, I do too.

The spectrum tx can have at least 5 flight modes. Different trims of all control services. I use three flap settings and wing swept and extended.Originally posted by xviper View PostI doubt it. I think if people are reporting a roll (and I've not seen these reports), it could be that they haven't trim it properly for each wing configuration. One way to tell for sure, is to trim the plane (wing out) so that it flies "hands off" at medium throttle. Once trimmed, slow down to near stall speed and suddenly throttle up to max. If it rolls, that might be due to motor rotation.
The Eflite F-14 utilizes trimming tied to flight modes for each wing position. This is something that I first heard of when Evan posted it. I was going to follow suit for next season on my FW F-14. Makes a world of sense since we can't be sure that there isn't a bit of wing irregularity (warpage, sweep deployment, control surfaces, etc.) from one side to the other.
PS. Mine rolled left before fully trimmed.

I have a question about the motors on the F-14. Are they counter rotating or do they both rotate in the same direction?

I graduate next year so those priorities will pay off soon lol. I am excited to be done with college, finish the project and get back into this hobby. I'll likely be putting those fans in there after the first and hopefully I'll be able to post speed runs and onboard aerobatic results on YouTube from the cockpit. Either way it'll be the closest thing I get to flying any type of Jet for awhile. I want to join the Navy and become an Aviator but they've got a serious wait time going on to start pilot training so I'll have to wait it out until that billet becomes more available haha.Originally posted by Dougcarr73 View Post
Ahh yes. Those dang priorities tend to get in the way of RC aspirations.
When you get a break check out these vids from "Just Plane Crazy." They show his upgrade to the FMS 3280-2100kv motors, which provides some insight as to what the more powerful 3665-2000kv motor will do to an F-14.

I have the Motionsic BAG FPV setup as well, but in my Viper 90mm. As kallend mentioned, weight can be an issue, but as long as you can make CG you'll never have a problem as long as you're aware of the minor changes in flight characteristics. But judging by the experience required to even have your setup, we're just preaching to the choir.
One thing I would like to recommend, If you haven't done so already, is upgrade your motors. I put two FMS 3665-2000kv 80mm motors in my F-14 and I can literally accelerate straight up after takeoff when clean. The cans are just a smidge bigger than the freewing motors, so I put a sander on my dremel and shaved out a bit of foam for a snug fit. Trust me, you won't regret it.
