Hello. has anyone here actually placed. the new 80mm 12 blade edf units in the v1. Some have said it is the same size unit with the same esc’s are the same amperage but the motion rc people said it wouldn’t work. Just curious

I’m not sure what to believe. looking at the reviews of the edf units on their site. multiple people are raving about the improvements on their jets

I think that's their "legal" brain talking. Like in automobiles, ANY modification to a car, even something as simple as changing wheels or non-OEM air filter "could" void warranty if something goes wrong with the car, even parts not related to wheels or air filter. It's up to the consumer to take and accept that risk/possibility.

All the FW 80's have the same form factor but some may have shorted or longer motor wires. If swapping out both fans and the ESCs for the V2 I'm 100% sure it will work.

Plenty of guys have fitted the 12 blade 2150kv fans to the mig and used the original 100A esc. Did you ask why it won't work.

These were the upgrades I did to the Mig's horizontal stabs. 2-ProModeler DS150CLHV servos, 1 servo reverser and a Hangar 9 4 1/4 inch titanium control rod. The ProModelers are priced competitive to the MKS and hitec servos, but in my opinion, are better. And Made here in Florida. They are powerful, quiet, smooth as silk and consistently return to neutral. No chattering searching for 0. There are others more expensive out there, but these are more than sufficient for me and these aircraft.

What paint and colours did you use? I have one of the older 9 blade 2021 models which I want to repaint as I've just picked up a new 2025 model to keep in the digital camo. My surname is Wildman 😂

Hugh, amazing work on your "925"! I was an 11 year old just about to start high school when I saw these two crash at RAF Fairford. Always had an interest in the MiG29 since! What paint and colours did you use? I have one of the older 9 blade 2021 models which I want to repaint as I've just picked up a new 2025 model to keep in the digital camo. My surname is Wildman 😂

That must've been quite a day at the airshow!! You've certainly got the superior claim to "Wildman".
I've seen 2 others in this blue/yellow scheme (obviously without the snakes), and one also in this thread used the other aircrafts number 926. Definitely don't want to fly these 2 together or they way want to reenact the crash!
This repaint was actually quite easy. After priming everything with white Rustoleum spray primer, the yellow is simply Rustoleum Gloss Spray Enamel "Golden Sunset" and the blue is Rustoleum "Blue Maui". Black is hand painted testors gloss enamel and of course the graphics are all custom made by Callie, without whom I'd be totally lost.

Definitely quite visible in the sky!!

I believe it's fallout from that "Shall Not Be Named" spamapalooza. We had to adjust many spam parameters in the backend, and unfortunately these innocuous posts are flagged for some odd reason I am not sure of.

You don't really have to have an exact match of the Rusoleum paint, just keep in mind I used a high gloss spray enamel, so any color you like should work. I'm sure you can find a yellow that matches fairly nicely, and if you want to do this scheme, just about any blue you like should work. You most likely notice that the blue of the real aircraft is darker than mine. I just happened to like that lighter blue when I found it so used it, as everyone who knows me knows I'm about as far away from being a "scale" modeler as you can get (see my latest F22 fantasy "Red Lion" below). Couple of points to keep in mind. I highly suggest you overspray the entire aircraft with a white primer that is of the same "type" paint as your final color. This gives a good adhesive base on the foam and allows the final paint color to stay true.

One other point, and this is the wildcard. They use some sort of "releasing agent" coating in the foam presses that allows the finished foam piece to come out cleanly and easily, then paint over that. Occasionally, even after using my enamel primer, which goes on nicely, there is still some of this "stuff" that doesn't affect the primer, but makes the final colored coat crinkle like an old grandma!! Not always, but sometimes in blotches anywhere on the aircraft. That's when you scream "OH F.... ME"!! I've found that if I do a coat of the clear Spar Urethane over the factory paint, it "seals" it out from bubbling up from the base paint. I've done dozens of full repaints and it has only happened a few times, always with the final paint sprayed on and not the testor's enamel hand painted. If that happens, just let it dry completely, sand it smooth, put a coat of Urethane or something like that over it and repaint it. Just happened on my F22 but it was just the nose cone, so bad I just ordered a new one instead and painted that.

Thanks very much for the tips Hugh! I'll try and get mine as scale as I can. I've been watching some of theRCGEEK's videos on prepping and painting EPO. He coated a recent aircraft in about 5 coats of Minwax Polycrylic prior to priming which I think will do what you're describing here.

It's a project for the spring/early summer when the temperatures here get a bit "warmer" and I can paint outside under cover, but I'll share some photos as the time comes!

Yes, miwax is the same as the Varathane Spar Urethane I use with 4-5 coats. The one I use is actually water based, but they make 2 kinds, one for interior and the other exterior. I use the exterior which has UV blockers so it won't "yellow" as the interior will after prolonged exposure to sun.
