LA, When I removed all the paint down to the bare foam on my FW A-10a, I soaked paper towels with acetone and draped those over the model.

It lifted the OEM Paint easily. I wiped most of it off with the same paper towel.

      Took a couple afternoons.

If I was doing a repaint and there is OEM water-slides/vinyl decals, I would use acetone and paper towels again.

Worth a try if you're repainting anyway.

      • Thanks guys, it is just that I do not like the design of the skull. I , for my sins, and for all my "working" life, was a woodcarver/artist, My company specialised in carving and painting heraldic devices and the skull just does not measure up. I think I will just paint over it. Way back I used to hand paint all this stuff. Never used decals. The pic is one of my companies products....did them when I used to be artistic. .

              • " Well i got her permission. " Says it all...F4u......join the club. 8s ? Don't think I'm qualified to progress to that ! I was playing about with the afterburners at the weekend because I thought they had a big draw on some cells in the 6s, seemed like it on the charger after a flight. In my nonchalant (good word) way, I strapped the battery in a wee 1/4----1/8 behind the mark on the ply plate. This morning I thought I'd give it a try. No problem, lifted off very nicely, flaps up, bit nose high, trimmed it, wee bit "livelier" on the sticks....lovely nose high approach and soft touch down. New mark on the ply now! That's only after about 4 years on the mark !! New grey marine lad just waiting on motor from Freewing......Thanks for the comp. LB.........seems many years ago now!.

That picture is quite old. It was taken on the 'guard side' of the runway, West of the runways.
I do not know what happened to '461', but I bet I can find out.

                      • " Some inspiration, as if you'll need any. Best, LB" ............Don't need inspiration like this LB, you make my F4 look like a beat up old hack (which it is) !!!!! Was out today again, bit breezy but not bad. Switched on the trans. putting all the switches to off, connected up the plane, half flaps ...gunned it, took off great....up into what I thought was a hurricane. Plane was all over the place, ducking and diving. Dawned on me that I had not switched the gyro on ....man it was like chalk and cheese, plane settled down a lot although it was still gusty way up. The new Freewing 1750 arrived this morning so that is this evenings job!!!

LA, An old hack? Puh-Shaw! I don't believe it even for a minute. Besides, I know your Phantom has more flight hours.. My Phantom has become a bit of a hanger queen this season. Best, LB

                          • Well LB, my beast has been up trees, sword danced and dropped, hit ball ditches, been lost and found twice, put the U/C up through the wings once .....very little pilot error of course..... and still has the original wings and empennage ...new body couple of years back... but still cuts the mustard in the air. Have a new Camo RTG in the garage and the new Marine guy but still like ol' faithful. Now, if I had a 29 yr old blonde in the garage I'm not so sure about the other ol' faithful in my life.......Hope she doesn't read this.....

                                  No.

Edit......just installed new 1750 into the old hack to give it a run. The Freewing that came out was a good motor but when I was fiddling with the two I noticed the blades on the new one are deeper and much more resistant to spinning with my finger. They were really jerky whereas the old one spun quite easily. That may mean something to you boffins out there but to me it is just "different"

SE, hard to tell from the photo, but whatever it is, it's too narrow to be a aux fuel tank. Good eye there, pardner. Best, LB

                                      • Yesterday high winds and pi##ing rain……woke up to overnight hard frost and a bright sunny calm day . Managed up for one flight with the new 1750, (dog walkers arrived ). Certainly more powerful than the Freewing one it replaced with a slightly louder whine but pleasant enough. All in it was worth it with power gain better than 5% but I would not go as far as 10%. Grass take off was a good bit smarter which was the whole objective. Recommend? Yes .
