Yes, I'd love to see some samples! BTW, I did see that pilot you are looking for to put in your Spittie. The face is a little goofy, but he's closer to scale than the stock pilot they include with the model, which is Way too small. I repainted the figure to look more like RAF WWII type.

I'll attach a pic of what it looks like prior to painting. Fits in the Spittie pretty well, he's 1/6 scale versus the airplane 1/7 scale, so "slightly" large but not noticably too large for the airplane. Once repainted, doesn't look bad!

I think you can just google a search of RC pilots and you'll find it if you think he would do the trick.

    • Looks good Dave. I just get tired of looking at the same pilot in every plane and I already have three of the Aces of Iron pilots, one in the old Spitfire, so that figure is getting old as well. One in the P40, another in BBD the P51

      • Hi Dan: The pilot I have in my Spittie is definitely RAF, but painted sorta weird. But after painting him more like an RAF pilot I think he came out ok, definitely more appropriate size for the Spit. He even has the RAF oxygen mask that was a piece of cloth with the oxygen mask that was then pulled over to the other side of the helmet to snap it in place.

Aces of Iron pilots do look pretty good. Pretty accurate molding as far as the uniform, helmet, oxygen mask, etc. What scared me off from buying one is that they ALL look like they are 60 years old!

But in my book, even they are better than NO pilot in the cockpit!

        Cheers

          • Aros As I recall, didn't he have an outside requirement that led him to sell most everything? That's how I remember it. I suppose you could ask for a new commission and see if he responds. Miss that guy, Brandon, RCJetGuy, and "Hardway", too. Best, LB

            • Too bad some of the people have either moved on or just disappeared. Akuma Zeto did my Spitfire pilot and it was absolutely the BEST!

                  • Maidened my Corsair at my new RC club in Astoria, OR. She's a beautiful flyer but I made the mistake of putting my RunCam very far aft just in front of the leading edge of the vertical stab. I had to move the battery fully forward until it couldn't go any further and when I checked CG it seemed within limits. However as soon as I took off I could tell she was tail heavy. I fought the trims most of the flight. Even still, she's such a pu$$ycat in the air it didn't look too bad outside of the porpoising as I am fighting the sticks to trim her out.

The landing was terrible. I brought her in too slow and she predictably dropped like a brick the last foot or two and bounced. Yet, I don't shy from my crappy landings in video as I post any and all of my flights, good, bad, or fugly. LOL. I also felt rushed to bring her in, and not being too familiar with the field, it didn't help. I heard this sound a couple of times...Hard to explain, go listen closely around the 1:34 mark. Would love to hear opinions on that sound and what it could be. Almost like the motor or prop is slipping.... At the end of the day she's in one piece and ready for better sorties in the future!

                      • After further investigation, I see that I have this stray single wire lead coming out of the ESC main lead titled “reverse brake”. This bird doesn’t have a reverse brake feature as far as I know. Is that the BEC lead mislabeled that should be added to an open port?

                            I like your new Corsair.

I would agree with Evan D that is the "Reverse Thrust" signal lead.

Nice 1st check flight even with the marginal CG issue.

Your new flying field is a beauty and any landing is a good landing.

Congrats, Aros! That's why we do maidens after we "think" we have it set up for a safe flight in every way possible. Even though you had a couple surprises, you persevered and brought it in for a safe landing. I bet on the next flights you'll take these lessons learned on the maiden and apply them to making the plane more stable (probably relocating the camera closer to the CG of the aircraft) and anything else you find on the postflight inspection.

Nice field you fly from. I like the grass that can cushion the landing if you end up short of the runway for whatever reason. Our field in Cody, WY is or can be nasty with sage brush, rocks, and other foam destroyers that make for a real challenge!

                              Carry On, my man!!👍👍👍

                              • Thanks gents! First off, if this model now has a reverse brake, I need to add it to the product pages. I don't recall my first one having that feature.

Yes, the field is not too shabby! They do a nice job of keeping the grass short and there are plans to lay down some new geotex for a smooth runway.

Can anyone help me figure out what that noise is at the 1:34 mark? It was a bit troubling which caused the premature and poor landing on my part.

                                • Aros, I rewatched your vid paying particular attention to point 1:34.

I saw two things and heard one., first the obvious 'twitch' roll left and second the prop/motor quick change in RPM as your camera caught the higher RPM due to frame rate differences, I believe.

In days of yore, we would have called that a radio glitch because the TX antenna was pointed directly at the Rx in the blind middle spot of the transmission.

Today's equipment should not have that issue, but I'd pull both a short and long range check with your Tx in different attitudes.

Check the Rx antenna placements and voltage from your BEC, too.

Other than that, I would be stumped, but I'll keep thinking on it.

                                      • BirdTree, Welcome to Hobby Squawk. Glad to have you onboard.

I remember the P-40, but do not recall what what used as the finish.

Hard\way tried everything new, fresh, and exciting on his builds.

Also, just a darn good guy.

If I had to guess, I'd say he used paint, probably Alclad, but don't know for certain.

I think he had every military FS color from MiG/Ammo,

Anything close to that silver would be great. It actually looks silver. Seems like most silver paints, look more like aluminum and not that shiny, silver/chrome kind of look that would be nice to have.
