Thanks JD, I bought Max Greuter's USN Pilot, cut, scaled and merged the parts it in my slicer program, then printed each part separately.

Assembly was straight forward, but painting was a challenge, as you can see, figure painting is not a natural thing for me.

You can find the design on cgtrader for $39.00USD. I have attached a link above.

The whole Corsair project was a great learning experience.

There were times I just had to sit back and think about the "how".

In the end it all came together nicely.

thank you. Ive purchased a few of Max's designs. They are always excellent prints.

Did you ever print/install whistles in the oil cooler openings like Alpha mentioned way back in the day? I could never find a link to a whistle file he referenced.

JD, no, but RRHandy's whistles look like a good fit.

I do remember Alpha saying the more holes and such you open up the more 'noise' she will make.

I did design a lower radiator door that is more open than the OEM. STL Above.

My thought is it should make some kind of noise, and I could add a whistle in the space at anytime.

            • I cut mine around qaurter inch way back i think most models could be a little softer on springs

                • Just ordered the Corsair. It will be my first RC plane. I want to do a bunch of simulator training before my maiden flight next spring. Any recommendations?

                  • canyoncreekjim,

I understand "Real Flight" flight simulator is good, but don't have any experience with R/C airplane flight simulators.

I looked for a thread here, but did not find one, could be I am just not looking in the right place.

You might check in the "General Topics" Section from the Home Page here at the Squawk.

And Welcome to Hobby Squawk, Sir,

                    • Here are my recommendations... 1. Send it back 2. Put it on a shelf and don't look at it for at least a year 3. If you decide to ignore my recommendations and fly it anyway, take a lot of pictures before your first take off because those pictures will be all you will have to remember it by. This is NOT an airplane for even an intermediate pilot unless they have flown other smaller warbirds first. You will destroy this plane with 15 seconds. There is no amount of "simulator training" you can do that will prepare you for an airplane like this or any other 6S warbird. Do yourself a favor, unless you have tons of money to burn, find a good, experienced RC flight instructor and do not purchase anything unless you speak to them first.

Real Flight is what you want. Get the one with the included Tx. I guess you can use your own Spektrum Tx with it but, for me at least, I'd rather just use my real Tx for flying and not bother with setting it up for the simulator etc.

As for flying the F4u, it flies great. But yeah, if this is your first rc plane get something that would be less ego damaging to crash and go fly the wings off of it. A high wing trainer with big bush wheels as a first is ideal. Learn to fly oval patterns and figure 8 patterns on the simulator. And practice landings, over and over. Then repeat the same with the high wing trainer. Fly patterns and land and takeoff, over and over.

After that, an 800mm warbird is a good first for learning low wing warbird flight characteristics. Then 1100mm series warbird is better for learning takeoffs and landings, touch and goes, and way easier on the budget when you crash than a 1600mm.

These steps towards the F4U aren't inexpensive but if it's flying rc planes that you want, then a simulator and a high wing trainer can open it up for you. Just start out with inexpensive planes so you avoid costly mistakes. Save the F4U as the goal, but take the necessary flight time to get there. If you love it, you'll get there.

                        We're here to help!

                        • Happy to report I snagged a new one the other day. Me without a Corsair is a travesty of justice. (I sold my first one a couple years back when I needed to fund another project). In a perfect world I would get mine to look like Elbee's but that chance is about as likely as being mistaken for Brad Pitt, lol.

I can settle with the mostly stock version because it really is a beautiful, scale Corsair for EPO. Has anyone noticed any recent upgrades? I ask because they don't always report little tweaks and fixes to us. I know the gear has been an ongoing issue and weak point since release.

Here in Astoria, OR I don't suspect too many chances to fly her in the coming weeks but I will get her all set up and ready to go when that rare calm wind and dry conditions occur over Winter.

                          Back in the saddle!

I think flying a nice high wing trainer first then a low wing sport plane would be a good route to go. Since the FLRC Corsair is a foamie it doesn’t fly like a typical heavy warbird but it still isn’t a good first or second plane. If you can comfortably fly a low wing sport plane you will have no problem with the FLRC Corsair, it’s a very gentle flyer.

The biggest issue with the Corsair is the retracts are very poorly designed and junk. You need to land it very softly or they will break. Other than that it flies like a low wing sport plane.

I agree with DENNISWPB completely - it may seem harsh but its really true, this should not be your first plane. Yes you can definitely make this the first plane that you're buying.... but you need so get some flying experience before you fly it. Start with RealFlight flight simulator, you can play with that all winter and crash thousands of times... you'll learn the controls and get used to the world of flying an RC plane from the ground viewpoint. But the flight simulator can only go so far, you don't have the benefit of two eyes - your depth perception in real life is completely different than a video game. You'll need to gain some real flying experience outside at a flying field. Join a club, find a friend who can help you! The first thing you should fly is a good high-wing trainer that's not too small. Motion actually doesn't specialize in this kind of plane - you can see several at Horizon Hobby. Something like the Apprentice or Turbo Timber, both are about $329 and are excellent airplanes to start with. These are pretty big - they have big wheels, and the high wing, so they are relatively easy to handle and don't need to be landed perfectly. They are fully capable of aerobatics and once you can handle these and land them easily, then you can start trying warbirds. The Corsair is big, heavy, and powerful and has flaps and retracts. Its not particularly difficult to fly but the landing must be done correctly - as TONYGAGJR said, the Corsair must be landed perfectly or you will break the retracts instantly.

                                  • I have to disagree that Motion doesn't have a good trainer plane. The Pandora is a excellent trainer and first plane. It is a 4in1 so it can be configured as a high wing tail dragger or tricycle gear and when your comfortable with it you can configure it to a low wing tail dragger or tricycle gear. That will get you used to that low wing warbird. It goes for 229.00 and has a 55 inch wing span. This was my second plane before my FMS Corsair which is still flying today and I still fly the Pandora today as a low wing tail dragger. Great sport plane! Best of luck Canyoncreekjim!

I agree that the Pandora is a good trainer, and its a good feature that it can be configured in different ways. I've flown it, and the others I suggested. There are certainly other options as well from other companies. My favorite trainer of all time was the LT-60! No stabilizing needed!
