Just watching a 1 month old p47 video (dronescapes). Very good.. but always learning.. some p47 launched off a carrier.. in the Pacific somewhere... They did not have tailhooks.. so must have been simply for delivery purposes??? Also did not know of them in the Pacific :face_with_monocle:

Just a small update. The alum. spinner has turned out to be a little heavy for this foam model but looks great. The HS kids are working on a 3-d printed spinner, prop cuffs and some other design features and I'll know more in a couple of weeks what they have accomplished. Hope to have STL files to share after prototypes are proven. Work has slowed on the P-47 for me to Prepare my Corsair Birdcage for the Toledo show. Hope everyone has their winter projects ready for spring flying.

A much simpler design to print than the STLs I bought for the Corsair's P&W.
I received the notice from 3DLabs for the P-47, but did not open the links.:disappointed:
That's the same designer where I bought the .50 Cal STL parts.

Dang Gummet, Dan! Just when I think I am finished with this bird you and Dave find more scale items to add. And now a reason to work on the Corsair too. Scale cockpits, sliding canopies, scale p&w engines.
Finishing up all my little boo-boos on the Corsair before the drive to Toledo next week. Hoping to have a lot of fun for 2 days at the show. I always buy more stuff than I need (or can afford) each year but it's like walking into a candy store.
Painting my Corsair pilot and using your tips. He isn't looking bad either.

When you get nearer the end, the most subtle changes in the color is what you're going for. I just touch the paint with my brush. Hint: round objects like the eye lids are brighter at the center and fade to darker as they angle away from you, like a ball would

I picked up the 3d parts that the HS class was working on for me for my P-47 and B-26 plus a modified spoke hub for Davegee's P-51. This was an extra project for 2 seniors that are planning on going to engineering school next year. If your looking for 3d parts check with your HS industrial classes. They are looking for projects that their students can see the final work.

The kids did a really nice job. The turrent rotates and both machine guns travel up and down in the turrent. The prop cuffs are still not what I wanted but the student was pressed for time.

The class is just robotics and cad drawing; They don't offer metal shop or woodworking anymore at our high schools. A Shame, I learned so much in woodshop and metal shop, heck I even took home- eck to learn to cook.

high school was. For. White collar. Brainiacs.. my son now 30. Was never given a spanner or screwdriver. Till I made it happen now here in ozz we import tradesmen.... Go figure :face_with_symbols_o

Dan, could you ask Dave what his sweet spot for the C/G on his many P-47s are? Wanting to get mine in the air ASAP but want to do this test flight correct. Manual shows 90-95mm for c/g balance.

Hi Rex: I decided to check developments of HS, and saw your post. I haven't measured the CG on the FMS P-47D for a while, but I did on my "I Wanted Wings" just now for your question. I think this most likely is the closest one to your aircraft. I did do some 3D cockpit and pilot enhancements, but I don't think they would amount to any significant changes from the stock unaltered airplane from FMS.
The FMS manual shows CG range 90-95mm behind the leading edge at the wing root. I just checked mine out with the following caveats:
1) landing gear down
2) FMS Corsair V3 prop and prop hub mounted on the nose
3) aircraft upside down and my index fingers on the points marked 90 and 95mm behind the leading edge of the wing
4) Admiral 6S 5000mAh 50C battery furthest forward on angled tray in the nose
5) no centerline or wing stores (drop tanks, bombs, or rockets).
Mine came out right at the middle of the 90-95mm marks when upside down. I think if you are pretty close to those marks, you'll be fine on CG.

Great to see you here again. Thanks for responding on the C/G, Still want to do an open cockpit canopy and better cockpit but really want to get this in the air. We have a WW2 day at our field next sat and hope to have this ready.
I'm waiting on the STL files from the HS class and going to check with them this week, haven't heard from the student who was sending them yet.
You guys are doing a great job on the P&W Engine, looks fantastic.

Plan to take lots of pictures. More guys in club bought warbirds for X-Mas than we have seen in years. We should have Corsairs, B-25s, Tucano, FW-190, Spitfire, P-51 and many more flying around. Club is up to 20 members and growing. We have 4 high school kids flying better than most of us even though they have just begun to fly.
