Aros,
Like you're re=paint. Always nice to make it your own from everyone else at the field.
Best Regards, Rex

Looks good Aros, btw, is that an actual runway !?!?

Sure beats the school right?
You sound like me, had a lot of prangs last year, I think my poor old DX8 finally gave up the ghost. I pranged my Pitts and my Blue Angels Bearcat along with my brand new Avanti and worst of all, my trusty first plane, Big Beautiful Doll. Had absolutely no control, just frustrating to have to watch them pile in. At first I just couldn't figure out why until the Bearcat just flew itself all over the map before the inevitable.
Now with the new radio, I was browsing through the manual (A rare thing for me) when I came across a section that said words to the effect that they 'recommend' that the antennae be vertical to the angle which you hold the radio. Here I've been flying with the antennae straight out for a decade!
Now, I don't know whether this was the cause or part of the cause, but I've got several flights on the RV8 now with absolutely no problems, so maybe....

Flew the maiden today. Like advertised, she's a real jewel. I did have to give her a ton of down trim (hmm, my 6S 5000 is smashed all the way to the front) and left trim for some reason but once trimmed out she was a doll. I've been really gun-shy with the hobby lately as I just got through the worst crashing phase in my entire 35 years in the hobby (mostly jets). So much so I was beginning to question my skill. So I kept the flight short and when I was going for a touch-and-go, I decided to take the win after a successful landing (albeit as I wasn't planning on landing, I didn't have flaps so she was a little hot and gave me the ceremonial wing tip salsa as my reward).
I suspect the second flight will be even better now that she's trimmed. I did note the tailwheel wants to drift right so I will have to fix that. I'm used to having to give right rudder with warbird taildraggers on takeoff, so needing to give left rudder threw me off.
Looking forward to getting Callie's decals, get her all pimped out and enjoy her hopefully for many flights to come!

Hi NW81….
Read back up several posts regarding the paints. It’s already been addressed.
Lots of good info…you’d be advised to read all the P-51 posts.
Good flying.

Woo Hoo! The EU Warehouse finally has stock! Ordered mine today along with the drop tanks. Can't wait!
Funny, as I only picked up a FMS 1700mm P51D a month ago that needed a bit of work even though it hadn't ever flown. Subsequently I'm going to do a repaint of the FMS Mustang now as I'm not keen on the Red Tail livery.
What is the best paint/finish for a bare metal look?
Mine is due in a week. Hopefully customs are kind!

Scale Diameter Propeller progress:
After botching the first attempt I finally got a nice spinner backplate. I first machind the knob on the front face, then attached 3 prop retainers so that I could chuck the backplate on my lathe.
The hole that was originally meant to attach the backplate to the propeller hub was opened to 32 mm dia. so that it fits on my Hacker C50-13XL motor.

Keep an eye on Fades, Frame Losses, and Holds, as well as Rx Battery Voltage. There are 12 servos + the retracts + lights on this bird (I know you know) which is plenty of current to possibly overload the bec. I've had high numbers on mine even with a capacitor and adjusting the satellites. Will now try a Rx pack just to test if things clear up.

Had my first gear extension failure at sunrise this morning. Was gonna do a touch and go after the first pattern. So, lotsa battery. I decided to retract and fly then start working a solution with plenty of time at the end.
When I extended the gear a second time it came down. I’ll be lightly lubricating everything with silicon spray. Probably a good idea to not use oil that would collect dirt. It’s a finely tuned mechanism.
It was the left main, only. I had thoughts of busted prop blades and torn off external left tank. Whew!

Update: After studying the retract design in more detail, there’s not an “up lock”…only a “down lock”. I must give this one to the gremlins possibly hiding in the control board. I also checked for any tolerance binding and found nothing tight or binding. So, a recycle of the gear switch “should” clear any hang-ups.

Got 3 flights in today with the drop tanks! Definitely adds a touch of drag and a few clicks of elevator, I have never flown with the tanks on. Got called in to cover the bombers, so quickly set up to drop tanks and get in the fight. Hit the button and nothing. Hot it again and they dropped! Learned that every time you power up the craft, cycle the bomb drops once. Then attach the tanks. They are ready to go. If you don't, the first press cycles the servo to full lock and the 2nd press release them. Man, does she fly nice. Put 3 of 5 1.6 birds up today, spitfire got 2 flights, P-51 and Corsair each got 3 flights! On a 5200 SMC HP I hit 10 minutes on the Corsair and I was not just cruising. Of the 3, P-51 takes off the best followed closely by the Corsair and then the spit a little bit harder. Landing, I think the Corsair wins, those flaps! Followed by the P-51 and then spit. Tomorrow putting up the B-25, P-38 and Avenger if it get here!

Evan, brillant solution. I used 0.12mm thick paper for all four button locks. No longer fighting the push buttons, they work perfectly. Thank you for posting. GlynOriginally posted by Evan D View PostI'm going to say this quietly as there could be negative unintended consequences.
Mine were almost impossible to latch and have gotten no better after many flights. I really have to push the wings towards the fuselage and to the point I was worried about damage. It was worse on the port wing. The Starboard wasn't nearly as bad. I took the small metal tabs off the port wing, two screws hold each one on. I cut a piece of paper 0.1mm thick and put these behind the metal tabs and put the tabs back on. Wa la, perfection. I still need to push the wing firmly against the fuselage but the latches are easy to latch and unlatch.
