  • Yup always be positive the mains hit first, and don t try forcing the nose down. Let it easy down so it doesn't smack the ground and rebound like that.

    • Hello JT,
I'm assuming you posted the video looking for comments regarding the bounce.
To be quite candid........probably any gear arrangement would have seen failure because there was a lot going wrong besides too steep & hot.
Nose gear had lateral sway issues which can be seen in the takeoff.
The landing was not lined up to center coming in off the left edge of the runway which was wrongly over corrected too late with a hard right then left then right bank all at less than 10 ft with a resulting touch down on the right main and nose.
I suspect that due to the rapidly approaching end of runway, instead of getting the plane to a level attitude after the second nose wheel contact which was grabbing altitude the nose was pushed over which collapsed the nose strut on contact.
As an instructor I have evaluated a lot of landing mishaps so as to provide guidance in order to help remedy the causes.
Hope that you find my observations of this mishap helpful. Learning from your mistakes always makes you a better pilot.;)
      Best regards,

        • Ouch!!! OV10 and fhhuber summed it up well. . . . And I always tell myself "Go around if things are not right" ie; poor landing approach, to hot,... With this A-10, my personal record is 3 go arounds in one flight. And I have that flight on video. It was tense to say the least on that 4th approach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjhsfdYpeEo

Not really......... I've had plenty of greased landings with my A-10 and just a couple of bounce mishaps like this one. The first time did result in the sloppy front gear movement you comment about that I knew would soon need replacement, which now it does. Everyone has a bad landing now and then. I posted this because I thought it was a cool perspective view of a bounce landing with that camera angle. But I guess you can always view it as an example to teach and learn from. Merry Christmas.

            • Man that landing you finally made reminded me of watching A6s dropping on a carrier! But she got down, so it'll do. You guys are making me want one of these now... Lol! :)
and for the later of the bouncing, heck we all have them from time to time. It's those little challenges that make this hobby fun!

I did a maiden flight on my new A-10 80mm and ended up crashing it due to some of the EDF fan blades breaking in the left EDF. I got the A-10 up in the air accomplished all my trimming needed. I came in for a pass and lost significant power and heard the motors making a loud rattling and vibrating sound upon the pass. I took a turn to try and recover it but was unsuccessful in doing so, the plane was under powered at that point and ended up crashing into heavy brush. This is my Second A-10 that i bought from Motion RC, my first one has about 35 flawless fights into it. Its such a great quality plane I decided to buy a second one to have a different theme on it. Its a great A-10 probably the best flying/quality out of the box A-10 that I've flown. It's such a shame that the A-10 didn't make it past its maiden flight.

Just to let you know my fellow pilots know out there that modifying the product in any way voids the warranty offered by the manufacturers. This includes painting, gluing, cutting, soldering, Modifying the product in any way voids the warranty. https://www.motionrc.com/pages/warranty-policy.

Because of my Arctic theme and battery connectors my claim was denied. I will remember to leave my planes unaltered unmodified for next time. This claim will not stop me from buying another Freewing plane or ordering from Motion RC and i know they provide great customer service cause i read it all the time.

                  Happy Holidays!

                  - Joe

                  • Aw man....so sorry to see and hear about your loss. And you're right, the Freewing A-10 is an AMAZING machine. That's the first time I've heard of the blades disintegrating on this jet. I wonder if something was sucked into the nacelle?

I did have something similar happen to my first Freewing F-86 a few years ago. It made a "pop" sound at take off, then it made a loud "boom" noise once into the flight, and down she went. It was hard to tell afterwards what actually happened because the blades were all broken from impact. However, the ESC was split open as well. It seemed that the ESC may have been the issue.

Complete faith in the product though, so I bought another. No problems since, and none so far with my A-10 either.

                    Thanks for sharing your experience.

I think they're still looking at mid Jan or so, I'm still running my reversed setup with zero issues.

                        • I was luckier than you Joe. Even after going through the tree and having a chunk missing from one of the nacelles, both my fans came out unscathed. I finally got around to test running them today and checking all the servos.
Still just waiting to see what's coming next before deciding what to do. I like my peanut camo twin 90 A-10 although I don't have any plans of flying it again until my home field reopens (Feb 1st I hope)
I wonder how those 9 blade units would work in a Tomcat. hmmmm.

Yes unfortunately it happened to me. I agree that the A-10 quality is far more superior compared to any other foam A-10 models out there. That's why i bought this second one but it didn't make it past its maiden.

Exactly, I'm on Instagram and a couple of RC forums. The rest is just for keyboard warriors who what an argument!
I guess it doesn't matter though and won't effect what ever releases are planned this year.
what you reckon on no.1 Avanti? Closely followed by the A-10?

I went back and checked the poll this morning. A-10 is in the lead followed by the B-24, A-4 and Avanti.
