Bullet proof glass in place as well.

Here's the pic of the birdcage rebuild undergoing restoration, they kept the fuse in half because it was a heck of a lot easier to work on.

Hey Rex, that's the stock Porcelain Pete that comes with the plane. He got transferred to the Pacific. Amazing what a little paint and perseverance can do. I ordered a bunch of paint (Testors and Vallegro) and, since I have a bunch of spare Pete's, they'll give me plenty of practice to master the craft of pilot painting.
BTW, I checked with Dave and he hasn't got any more bushings, can I ask you to send me some? I'll gladly flip you a check for them, PM me and let me know, thanks!

          • Got the wings off and working on riveting the fuse. Time consuming for sure but well worth it. I'm using a small allen key with a rounded tip to enlarge some of the rivets to resemble the fasteners for the various removable panels, so far it look way cool!

            • Mr. Danger Man,
If you go to post 5280 you will find a picture of the birdcage mirror inside the sliding canopy. You'll have to squint hard to make it out but gives an idea where it is. I'm still looking for better pictures.
              Any updates to see?
Made your bushings today and will get mailed asap.

              Best Regards, Rex

Right now she's in two pieces as I found the last few details will be easier with the fuse and wings separated. She's looking good and I'm hoping to get into the lower sides of the wings this weekend. What I really like is the pink 'coral' dust in the cracks as well as the larger 'snap locks' (can't recall what they were called, but we had them on the DC 3 to lock the cowling pieces in place). We've both been a little under the weather this week after we got through going to Billings to have the wife's angiogram to check out the operation from last year, all is well.

I'll get an update together either tomorrow or Monday.

                  • Grossman56,
Glad you and your better half are doing well. I checked with Motion on the axle diameter and I already made up your wheel bushings. I'll send some axle to strut spacers also. They work well with Elbee's struts.

                    • Thanks Rex, muchly appreciated. F4U Aussie, I've heard Zuess fasteners but they were something like twist locks. God, sucks to get old, I could rattle all this stuff off when I was working on the 3 back in the '90's. Oh well, as long as you know what I'm referring to. For the record, Rex, what size were they?? I'm sure that, at some point, someone is going to ask, be good to have in on this thread.

Thats the picture I was talking about. Hard to see but it's there. Mounted to the front frame of the sliding canopy. I added the electrical insulator behind the canopy. Made from balsa and a 2-56 bolt with 2 nuts to hold Aerial from the stabilator post. Rex
