  • Grossman,

From a Great OEM Corsair to an incredible looking well-worn flying miniature. You have raised the bar.

    Best Regards, Rex

    • Thanks Rex, still a long way to go. Cockpit pieces are complete and the dry fit is good. Still not sure about putting the rudder peddle rails in, but I'm working on it. Going to follow Daves motor mod and of course, the landing gear mods, scissors and bushings as well as the bay themselves. I may 'weather them by putting the 'salmon' colored zinc chromate in and then repaint, leaving 'chips' in the paint, got to experiment with that rock salt method, it may work in the bays as well as the prop. Still want to get my hands on one of those pilots that Elbee has, Dave and I have discussed it and he wasn't sure of all that Elbee did to modify him. Anyway, it's still a long Winter ahead so lots of time to work on it. Has anyone printed the 'whistles' and installed them or do I have to buy those balls and cut them open. Seems to me, a long time ago, Pilot Ryan and Captain Mike mentioned that there was a 3D program for making those. It would be pretty cool to add those.
Also, since Callie doesn't have a pic on her website for the DD livery, maybe she'll use a pic of mine!

So many ideas, as I said, I don't think they're ever really complete.

I have attached G-code files for Dave's Prusa Mini of all the 'whistles' I have in my STL inventory.

I have used the large one in my Freewing F-4, F-18C, and my Flightline Seafire modded Spittie.

These sound good and need to catch some air to sound properly.

Test the angle by blowing into the whistle at different angles and try to emulate that angle position wherever you place these.

              Good Luck, Gentlemen.

Hi Elbee: Thanks for doing that! At the moment, I haven't been able to get the files out of Acrobat. Is there another way you can send the files so I can pull them up? I would definitely be interested in the one for the Corsair, maybe all of them if I can pull up the G Codes somehow.

                Thanks!

                • Thanks Elbee, just seems like a natural for the Corsair to have a whistle as the nick name 'Whistling Death' would indicate it.
Somewhere behind the cooler intake in the leading edge I'm thinking.

I've never used Adobe Acrobat to open a ZipFIle, but if it works, no worries.

I have just sent the file to you by email, too.

                    • This is to make EDF jets sound just like the real thing.

                      Hey all, davegee

This is on Thingiverse and is the same EDF Whistle that has been floating around for a few years.

It is also the same design/modified design I have in my Phantom, Hornet, and Spitfire.

Might be easier to download this and slice it for your selves.

                      • Sorry guys, been fighting a bug and the wifes got it pretty good as well. Got to hook up with Dave, but I really don't want anyone getting this darned thing.
I'm pretty well over it but it's drained me pretty good. Yeah I know whine whine whine
Anyway, the bird looks awesome and I'll probably get back into it on Sunday, I'd like to get into the wheel wells and see what mischief I can create there. I like Elbee's weathering on the tires, I never thought of that but it looks cool. Got to get some rock salt as well and experiment with that.
Finally, I want to try coating matte spar varathane over the workable fixative on a scrap piece of foam. If its good to go, that will solve the protection problem. The workable fixative seems to hold the chalk on quite well. The good thing about working at the hospital is that they're always throwing out things like little lids and stoppers that can be made to look like motor parts, scored some today that should work well on the two Bearcat motors.
Anyway, that's all for now, thanks to all my Squawker friends for the assistance, just hope the dang thing flies!!

Sorry to hear your under the weather. No fun at this time of year especially when your aircraft is down for Maintenace and needs to get back in the air ASAP to take on your arch rival - MR. P-47
You will like the salt treatment on your props. Makes the paint chipping look real.
You should receive a letter in the mail with a small package inside any day. I mailed it Monday but don't know how fast the Ponies run up in Gods Country. LOL
Get Well and have a Merry Christmas! Rex

What we need to do is plan to all meet (You, Me, Dave and Elbee) at the Nationals. Plenty of flying fields to fly on. We could sit around the fire like in Blazing Saddles and talk airplanes for a few days. Also, gives you a good excuse to the wife why you need an enclosed Trailor.

I have the exact same Santa Claus and his airplane only in ceramic that my wife gave me a few years back. The prop spins and there is lights on the wings its one of my favorite decorations at Christmas. Too bad we are all over the country it would be nice to meet in person and go flying.Merry Christmas to all!

                                    • Got a bit of work done with the air brush, I painted the tail wheel hub and strut a dark black/navy blue combination as I've notice that only the factory fresh Corsairs seemed to have white hubs and white struts, probably from the exhaust I would guess. At any rate, it tends to look more authentic to my old mind. Did the same with the bearcat and it really added to the overall look.
Still kicking around the idea of what to do with the wheel wells, but I'll save that for when the bushings arrive.
BTW, got my 01/2025 edition of the AMA magazine and lo and behold, on page 48, there's Elbee's bird
It's always cool to see one of the gang get recognition al la cover of the Rolling Stone Congrats Elbee!!!!
Now, on page 63 there's a new-to-me product called 'Foam Finish to 'enhance and protect' foam airplanes. Anyone familiar with this??
                                      Something new to try.
