Depending on where you placed your foot troughs, you can easily fit a 'full-bodied' pilot above and on either side of the control rods.

That's exactly how it worked out for me.

I did move my Rudder Servo aft of the cockpit, but that was to allow room for the sliding canopy mechanism, additional light wiring, and whatnot.

Cool Dave. I was thinking the same thing with the pilot, if I make the foot rails and allow for the control rod throw, it should work out fine. I sure like the idea of having a full pilot in the cockpit.
I'm off for Sunday and Monday, can't wait to see the little guy.

Hi Dan: I am going to work on a second pilot today. It takes about 9 hours to print up the body, so that is an overnight job. If I can't make it by your house on Sunday, let's plan on Monday. I'm gearing up to go down to Boca Chica TX on Wednesday to see the Starship 7 launch (hopefully) so I'm starting to get busy getting my camera gear ready to go for it.

I'll let you know how it comes out and if it is suitable quality for your airplane

Got the tail hook off, it was easier than I thought, just press fitted on, no C clips or other PITA's, a little touch up on the paint and she looks good. Probably gained 10 mph
Tomorrow is pilot day!!!!

Hi Dan: I've got your pilot completed, sans paint. Otherwise it should be ready to install in your airplane when the time comes. What I did on mine this morning was cut a 1 inch diameter dowel about 1/2 inch thick disc, and then put it on the sander to bevel one side some. I then put the cut dowel with the thicker part forward, like a seat cushion for the pilot. This makes the pilot's legs a little more elevated and they clear the rudder and elevator control rods. Just a thought.

I should be able to drop by your house tomorrow morning. Does mid-morning work for you? I can drop by about 10 am after I finish at the gym if that is ok. If not, name a time and I can probably make it.

My wife is painting my pilot now. Acrylic paints seem to cover the natural PLA material that the pilot is made out of, no problem, without using a primer. Should look Much better than the Porcelain Petes we have been saddled with for the past several years!

Great minds think alike; I also removed the tail hook yesterday with no problems. Now, that's a Marine Corsair!! TRIVIA QUESTION: How much did the tail hook and bar on the Corsair weigh?? ANS: Approximately 48 pounds.

Rex, that design is from a 1:32 5-view drawing.

It is scale to the drawing which is scale to the 1:1 and unfortunately does not fit the FlightLine Corsair.

With any model interpretation by a manufacturer, certain 'liberties' are taken for manufacturing as you probably are aware.

I was quite surprised that my design from the drawing wasn't even close to fitting the FlightLine model.

As a result, I bought a second canopy from MotionRC and designed around that for the sliding canopy feature.

I even went so far as cutout the 3D printed frame and resize it to the width and length and it just was not worth the effort to mod to the FlightLine Corsair.

In the end, the mod worked, but I went backwards around the block to get there.

Cool, will do Danger Dan. I spent a good part of the day finishing up the 3D printed pilot, with the help of my wife who did the major preliminary painting. I then got into the detailing and adding things like the cords that come out of the headsets to communicate with others.

I think the pilot came out pretty well, certainly looks better than the OEM Porcelain Petes. It worked out to make a scale full-body pilot so I didn't have to start hacking off limbs to get him to fit! I"ll attach a few pics of my pilot when I finished it and will be gluing it in tonight or tomorrow. Nor rush as we have plenty of snow to melt off before I can fly again.

In trial fittings he slides in very well and his feet don't touch the rudder or elevator wires. Very impressed with doing 3D printing. Tons of potential in modeling!

The pilot is supposed to represent Lt. Robert M. Hanson, USMCR, the highest scoring ace in WWII in the Corsair (25 kills). KIA in early 1944 on a strafing mission of a Japanese flak tower, just having attained the age of 23. MOH recipient (posthumously).

Hi Rex: maybe we could effect a trade.I need someone to develop a stronger outer wheel half for my E Flite P-51D that is currently shredding the thin plastic rim with the Robart 3.5 inch tires. Also, I’d like to get a better designed Curtiss electric prop dome for my P-47. Mine is close, but could be slightly improved to look a little smoother and more realistic. Would your students be interested in a challenge like that?. I can print up and paint a Ken Walsh pilot that would fit into your cockpit easily. I’m going over to Danger Dan’s tomorrow with my V2 Corsair pilot to see how he fits into his new birdcage Corsair.

Just a thought. Might be a fun trade??
