  • Hey all,

Got a retract question , I was showing my dad the features , and one of the retracts simply stopped going up and down, is there anythink I can do to check them or are these pretty much a throw away if they stop functioning. ??

It's locked in the downward deployed position.

After he left I unscrewed the retract from the housing took off the lock screws to the strut , but I can't get the strut off. It's like the factory lock tighted them. I really don't want to mess with it anymore and may just be s.o.l and will call them on Monday. No big deal, just wondering if there is any trouble shooting , off that it failed if it did. This was the same strut that gave me a hard time to get the wheel off too.

The better idea would have been to trace all the wiring from retract to the control board. Pay particular attention to the wing connector board. Some of my connectors were not fully seated. Remove them one by one and test with a servo tester but DO NOT test the light circuit. A servo tester will burn the light out. Through the process of elimination, you can find the one for the retract and test it by itself. Also, on mine the plugs were mixed up and one was even plugged in with the wrong polarity. Brand new retracts don't usually just quit at the end of one cycle. There has to be a bad connection somewhere.

you can disconnect the gear servo at the mini connector board on the wing. try powering it up with a servo tester bypassing the multipin ribbon wire and blue box

          Brandon,

Love the additional cylinders to look more like the double wasp. Did you get these online somewhere, print them or they look a little like the cylinders in the FMS corsair?

ID:	183542 The dummy radial is a combination of the Stock FMS Tigercat radial and parts from the Stock FlightlineRC Corsair radial all combined together. if you look at it closely....it's pretty self explanatory.

The cowl flaps are just simple modeling plastic I cut and glued on the outside at at angle to simulate the open cowl flaps. I did slightly bevel the edges of the existing cowl flaps lines to countersink the plastic

BTW G54, your picture reminded me that the treads on most bubble top Corsairs including 5 pictures I have taken at Reno are of the solid inline groove type whereas I've seen a number of people on this thread ordering Robart tires with the diamond pattern treads. Just an observation. Going with the solid grooves on mine.

                      • Alfer, you can make one. I tossed the plastic sidewinder nose on mine and used brass tubes. Main tube is aluminum with brass pitot on the end. I made a small shark fin from brass and soldered it on.
Super rugged and for transport it pulls out of the wing.

Even has the the ram air opening

I have my dear departed Control line and Rc mentor Amos to thank for things like this. He taught us how to custom build soup can fuel tanks to fit any space, landing gear, basically whole models from scratch.

Quite possible. I've seen both but what's really funny is most of the photos I've seen of the USMC squadrons stationed in the Pacific, their tires are bald! LOLand leave it to the Navy (photo attached) they have one of each!LOLLOL I chose the diamond tread because they were recommended by TI and I found a couple sets on sale.

I think the last two pictures (on the carrier) are from the Korean War - these are later-model Corsairs with the chin scoop.
The first two pics are earlier models (Like our Flightline birds) and you can see they have the diamond treads.

(side note - If I remember my history, the Corsairs weren't immediately available because after WWII they had all been mothballed, and they had to dig them out of storage and get them cobbled together to get them ready for service in Korea.) You can see in the pics that they were fitted with rockets and such. Funny how the one has two different tires! Maybe they were using up some spare parts that were lying around on the ship!

I just noticed - look how BIG that pilot is in the second pic - his shoulders are all the way up to the headrest and his head is going to hit the canopy. He must be 6'-8" or maybe he's a short guy standing in the cockpit!! LOL

That's a really nice scratch-built Pilot- tube, Ol' timer. I remember back in the ol' days, when we all would scratchbuild our models out of balsa and Ambroid. (my brain damage has subsided)
Kids these days just don't know about all that, why, back when I was a young'un I used to have to make my own engines out of scraps, tin, spit and bubble gum. Now you just go out and BUY whatever you want, they just don't have the skills no more! :)LOL

Seriously, you done good. But this should be super easy for someone to make a 3D file so we can print that "marital aid" on the end and stick it on to a tube. Dirty Dee can you hear me?? Or are you gonna make me drag out my soldering iron and make this darn thing by hand out of brass and what-not.....

                                • Thanks MD,

You said it, even at the hobby shop in the days of old there was little to be had other than balsa, monokote, and engines. Airplanes were either scratch built or came as a kit. Much of life was like that then, repurposing so many things to keep homes and farms running. For youngsters today, well, it’s all lost to them. Sad

Anyway, winter is finally ending here in the northeast US and outdoor work season is again upon me. Flying is always second fiddle till I get the big stuff reigned in but I’ll sneak it in here n there.
I will soon be scarce on these boards as priorities are changing, I’m in no hurry to maiden the Corsair , believe I haven’t flown in perhaps four months now so a bit of brush up first, not too big a deal really, happens every year. Plenty of great planes here to get proficient in quickly MotionRc is always in a hurry for reviews but I NEVER review a model until after several flights.
I was able to get a few pictures of the Gopher in actual sunlight, wow, sunlight, it really does exist!

Ya'll, Quick Corsair Pitot Tube End. Take it and run with it. Dimensions can be changed in your CAD program or "Scale" it in your slic3r. The shape is okay, the lengths should be cut to fit a longer tube that inserts in the wing. If it works for y'all, great, if not, I'll design something else later if someone hasn't already. Gone OoT for a few days. Best, LB

I just noticed - look how BIG that pilot is in the second pic - his shoulders are all the way up to the headrest and his head is going to hit the canopy. He must be 6'-8" or maybe he's a short guy standing in the cockpit!! LOL
Funny you mention the size of the pilot in the second photo. I recall reading somewhere that there were a few TALL 6' 8" pilots out there, one I think was in the 214 Black Sheep. My Dad wasn't tall, maybe 5'10" but he told me he liked to fly his P51 with the seat as high as he could get it. Maybe this guy does the same?LOL

ID:	183676 O.K. Here's a pic of a Corsair I took at Reno last year. It's actually a smart phone pic of a pic. The original was in raw format so it doesn't transfer easily. Got those "groovy" tires!LOL Good details for engine and weathering too perhaps.
