What brand did you use? You also have me thinking I may go ahead and try the yellow decals. Just to be sure...as mine seem to have a weird inconsistent finish...I know someone said they are peel and stick, but do they have the top film on them to be peeled away also? If not then mine may not be usable, but if the inconsistency is simply the peel away top sheet I should be okay.

    Yours looks AWESOME !!
    Thanks!

I did not use any clear coat after. I was planning on hitting it with some mini wax Polycrylic today. I used generic spray paint from the hardware store. Not a major brand you could find online. Any flat white/black in enamel will work. The yellow LE decals did not have the top film.

The AS3X/SAFE stuff is another story...seen a few birds uncontrollably fly themselves into the ground with those to be honest..even after passing a pre-flight check.

I'm always intrigued by the TX/RX debates. The truth is all of the name brands are really good. Spektrum, Futaba, JR, Jeti, Hi Tec...I've seen many pilots having the same results I have with all those. Proper installation and maintaining seems to be the key to "no issues" which by definition to me means "losing zero aircraft as a result of TX/RX problems". Anything electronic/mass produced can fail of course and none of these are perfect, but I personally have had several times where my careful pre-flight check probably saved my plane...one of those being RX related. I always do a range test at the beginning of every flying session (most do one once at the maiden) and on one occasion a plane that always passed the check all of a sudden didn't. I caught it. HH sent me a new RX for free.

The Lemon stuff may be great...never used them so can't speak on that, but justifying buying them by insinuating that Spektrum TX's don't work properly may not be a necessarily fair suggestion...too many thousands of people having no issues with Spektrum for that to be the case, and as a guy that see's hundreds of guys bring stuff in a LHS (where I work) I can tell you most of any issues in this hobby are user related. You wouldn't believe the stuff I see...modelers like us are the minority now...so many new folks that don't read instructions and are convinced the issue is with the product. They get this puzzled look on their face when we make it work in two minutes...:Silly:

By the way...not trying to derail the thread or start something, just suggesting that folks can but what they want and in most cases when used properly they will be good to go.;)
You are correct in that it was unfair for me to insinuate Spektrum Rx's as a whole have issues. As I said I love my Spektrum Tx's. The main issue I had, and what made me angry with Horizon was when I first lost a brand new Habu32 due to a "new" bad HVservo that caused it to be totaled and after calling Horizon they blew it off. Not long after that I replaced the AR8000 Rx's I had in my H9 1/4 Cub for a couple years with a new AR9000's series Rx's and after careful preflight on the first takeoff the model hard overed just after lift off and I had no control response. Damage wasn't too serious but still made me really mad and at the time could only surmise I had some sort of loss of signal. Only thing that had changed was the new Rx's. I then thought back on a couple foamies I had brownout's with over the the last couple years, AR400 and AR600 series and can only guess that it was a Rx's issue. Who knows, maybe there was some sort of interference due to installation and it wasn't the Rx's at fault. I still have a few models with Spektrum Rx's and have no issues with them.

OK, now back to the Spitfire!

I made my first flight yesterday. I used the suggested settings and was using the low rate for my first flight with no expo. I had too much up elevator in the flap mix and ended up floating in for a landing. Unfortunately, I too lost both landing gear. Thankfully, my props didn't break. The amount of glue used in the wheel wells was pitiful. I've used Foam Tac and am ready to hit it again tomorrow. She is a beautiful bird in the air.

            Good luck and blue skies.
Hi Cruiser, sad to lose the landing gears. Could you more specific about the wheel wells (maybe a pic) i like to secure it more before i go to fly. Where exactly do you put Foam Tac, Is it possible to do
it before the first fly? Thank you

            • Just got back from a flight cut short from one of the retract housings popping out on landing. Was a nice greaser, roll out looked fine and then suddenly it tipped on a wing. Something to look out for. I am going to epoxy the housing to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Humm.. good to know. Probably should yank mine and and re-glue as well. Don't want to loose a prop assembly. Never know when you might have an "interesting" landing that puts some extra side load on the gear.
When the Bearcats first came out others had posted they were having their gear pop loose but mine was good for quite awhile. It was only after a couple sideways landings when one of mine came loose. A little epoxy and good to go!

                • Agreed, even though that last landing was good, there were some side-load force on earlier landing practices which probably built up enough stress to finally give, even on a good landing. Just something to consider doing.

I don't have much luck with epoxy, but Gorilla Glue will lock that puppy in like there's no tomorrow. I had nose gear difficulties with the Avanti until I did the post Nefi surgery. Now she ain't goin' nowhere!!

Possibly on my MkXVI mod. Love the Canadian RCAF No.443 (Hornet) squadron scheme though. Looks like most late late (1947-49) MkXVI's relegated to training or RAuxf squadrons were painted overall "aluminum" though. (SL727) Code HT-L, No.601 (County of London) is an attractive all silver scheme.

                              • Someone on this forum posted a letter that he had from the war department during the Normandy invasion that all stripes were to be W/B/W/B/W and were to be 18" in width. So I scaled mine and then rounded to 2.5" for the invasion stripes. And split the difference from the Aileron and the wing root for location....

Epoxy is brittle and won't flex with the foam, I do like it for certain things like filling in P-38 backing plates ;)

I will defer to Grossman and Aros on the best way to re-glue the landing gear. Aros (unfortunately) posted a great pic of what happened to both of my gear. I applied Foam-Tac to all surfaces that had been glued before. It seems solid after 24 hours. Good luck.
