  • Hugh Wiedman You're right. I use 5000s and have my timer set for 4 min. When I'm down, I'm quite happy with the flight time I got. With jets, that's a lot of territory covered in a few minutes.

        • I use my 2.! Cessna E-flite as a trainer and have had people stop by where we fly and ask what is like so I take them up with my 2.1 Cessna. I always take it with me I had three retired Air Force Pilots stop by today so we took them up with the Cessna on my DX8's wireless trainer setup they all had fun then I installed a GO-PRO on the fuse and took this Aerial video this morning I also flew two of my A-10's, F4-Phntom and my T-33 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nha1AABFL9Q&t=19s

Didn't fly today. But the Avios Grand Tundra will be in the air tomorrow. I created the fictitious Yukon-based, "Bear Air" scheme with yellow trim for better sighting. Using a 15x9 prop on 6S...I'm sure it will be a blast....

              • Had a great day flying today. Got the maiden flight in on my OV10! Put a initial 4 minute flight on it with a few clicks of trim on the aileron and elevator but I noticed it was a little squirrelly at low speed so I landed it and recalibrated the ESCs and the next flight it flew like it was on rails! Greased in both landings this one a keeper!

I did have a casualty as well my Dynam B26 is no more it was uncontrollable after take off it hit and cartwheeled on landing. I guess I will be scrapping the electronics.

I find that my Dynam Maurader must be flown at high throttle settings. The power system is very inadequate and it's really easy to go too slow and stall it. Taking off can be tricky if you don't keep full power till you're well into the circuit, then never go below 2/3rds throttle even on the straights. Any banked turn must be met with full throttle. I've had boo-boos with mine but so far, it's been fixable. I've also had to replace all the retracts as they stop working anytime the outside temps get below 60C. This is a well known flaw. Too bad about yours.

                  • It was at full throttle when I took off it banked to the right and it was over as I tried to get it to turn left. I'm not terribly upset since I have many good flights from this plane.

I guess it was meant to be. I have had several Dynam planes and not a single one would I consider to be "good" flying products out of the box. I still have a Dynam C-47 that flies "OK". That and the B-26 are going to be the next planes I get rid off, either giving them away, selling them for cheap or flying them with wild abandon until they crash.

                      • Got 7 flights in on the A-10 and another 5 each on the F-4, F-16 and Slick 60. It's becoming almost impossible to keep the A-10 out of the truck every time I go out, it just flies so sweet! I don't like to charge batteries at the field so now I have to bring a separate trailer just for all the LiPo's. And I don't even have the Mig, yet anyway, but I can still dream about it!

                        • Had a great day of flying at the Texas Scale Champs and put a few flights on my Bell 47 and Huey. Had a lot of fun flying a tandem flight with Rene Gotiear with his awesome 800 Huey and my Bell 47, as well as seeing his national champion Bell 407 GT. Also brought out the B-25, but it didn’t fly due to a dead elevator servo (thank goodness for the preflight!).

                          • Got out some of the "usual suspects" again yesterday as the weather was supposed to be nice. Forecast were for an 8-12 mph east wind (right down the runway) and I love flying with that wind as it makes take-offs and landings on grass super easy for some of the jets. Got there early and up until noon the winds were almost dead calm so I got 3 flights in on each of the A-10, F-4, F-16 and my Extra (which makes 3D flying with no wind a blast). Then all of a sudden, the wind shifted out of the north at 18-23 mph, OH , I hate crosswinds with the F-4 and F-16. Both jets boycotted any more flying but I still got a couple more flights in with the Extra (winds from any direction aren't a problem with that thing) and another flight with the A-10. The A-10 handled it but complained the entire flight, especially during landing and take-off so I called it a day to avoid any potential mishaps. Already in love with the A-10 after only 25 flights and finally have the "pucker factor" down to 0 on the F-4, what a sweet flyer it turned out to be. Almost there with the F-16 as well. Hope there's a Mig in the very near future! Looked at the weather forecast which shows high winds and rain for the next 10 days so I'm not a happy camper at this point. And our club has a big Aero Festival for large scale planes/jets coming up next weekend, so I hope the forecasters are wrong as usual. Intend to take my A-10, one of my B-24's and possibly the Corsair (all under the wingspan of 80" that the Festival is for, so I'm hoping for a "special waiver" of home field advantage and may have to attack some sticks on the wings to get to 80"), so we'll see what happens.

                                      • Spring has finally sprung down here. Daylight savings means trips to the field after work and although it's typically the windiest (and unreliable forecasting!) time of year, there are absolute gems of mornings like today that make all the hours watching batteries charge and getting up at the crack of dawn worth it.

Bunch of flights on the venom and the recently upgraded (FMS 8S) F-22. I love the scale flying jets like the F-14 and F-15, and it's fun being on the hype train when stuff like the AL37 and fulcrum get released... but in terms of sheer flying pleasure, and 'go-to' jets after a couple of weeks of uncooperative weather, i think these two sit at the top of the heap.

                                        • Our Club held it's annual 2 day AeroFest Event for large "Scale" aircraft/helicopters. The event was outstanding and over 40 pilots showed up with over 60 planes and over 15 helicopters. In general, it was for aircraft with a wingspan greater than 80". I attended and flew my silver FL B-24 and also my FW A-10, which was slightly under the general guidelines but exercised my "home field" advantage. Unfortunately, my B-24 got "cut down" from behind while I was landing by a 1/5 scale F-16 turbine.

I called for landing and was cleared (and all the pilots on the line acknowledged it), but about 15 feet high on the center of the runway as I was coming in, the F-16 slammed into me from behind. That pilot was doing a high speed low pass directly over the runway as I was landing! What a Jack A....!! He tried to claim he was off the centerline but the impact happened right over the runway, thus violating at least 2 of the events (and our club's) rules of 1) landing or taking off aircraft have the right of way and 2) we are not allowed to fly over the runway, especially the big turbines as it is too close to the pilot stations and the spectators. He claimed his "spotter" told him it was clear (and yes, his head was way up his A... also). Then he tried to imply that it was my fault for doing a shallow landing approach while he was busy violating our rules. To make matters worse, even after seeing the pictures and others telling him he was completely in the wrong, he never even bothered to try and apologize. My faith in human beings has just be re-affirmed, even with all the guys and gals in this sport who are some of the best people I've met, there is always a head in the bunch. I guess just because his jets (and he has several trailers full of them) cost $10-$15,000 he thinks he can do what ever he wants. Who in their right mind would do a high speed low pass (even if it was permitted) right over the runway when someone has been cleared to land and then try to claim innocence!

Well, at least I still have my Olive B-24 and now have a potential opening in the hangar for something new, like maybe a Mig! Everyone told me that he should have at least offered to reimburse me (which I wouldn't have accepted because I know happens), but not to offer an apology and try to actually blame me (or his spotter) just tells me what kind of a person he really is.

Even with that, I still had a fun day flying and the B-24 flew great as usual and with it's sound system and moving turrets with gunners it was a nice attention getter being one of the few electrics in the event. And of course the A-10 got plenty of attention from spectators and pilots alike.

The 2 I flew and the "mugging" by the F-16:
