Two new 90mm jets in one

You ever have those days you feel like quitting the hobby, or at least jets? That's how I've felt this week.
happens, but so sorry, we've all been there. With that said, one issue may stem from you now taking off from grass. You've been used to a quick and fast take off roll getting the jet up to rotation speed with no delays. I'll wager you are now rotating at a slower speed on grass than you used to on asphalt. Greater potential for a stall or resulting in severely wonky control on take off.

I had to be mindful of that when I went to grass at first as well, waiting a bit longer to rotate.

Stalls on these jets tend to roll to the left, so doubt the F16 stalled, but may have not quite had enough air speed to give you complete control.

You know I bet you are dead on. It probably rotated sooner than I needed her to due to the grab of the grass and being hugged against the edge of the runway where there is 3 foot tall grass waiting for your plane to plow into causing precisely what happened since I needed to lift NOW.

The reason I took off so close to the edge is because our club has an ancient mat runway just taking up most of the field real estate.

To say it’s not an ideal field is an understatement.

          Sigh.

That wasn’t the case for the F-18 which remains a total enigma.

              • Happy Father’s Day to all the pops out there!

I slapped Frankenbird with a ton of Gorilla Tape last night and took her back out for a potential redemption flight. Used the crappy mat runway to the suggestion of a long time club member and she flew great!

Imagine, just needing adequate airspeed for takeoff.

                🤦‍♂️

She may not be as pretty and pristine but she still flies!

WOW, exceptional work. I've got several jets that have a ton of spackle, epoxy, paint, etc. to the front section requiring additional weights in the tail to keep my balance point, so that's just par for the course.

No one except you will even know that it's "got a past history", especially in the air.

Another suggestion that helps on grass. 8S provides more take-off power on grass, but believe your F16 is 8S. On my F16, V1, I programmed flaperons which help as well. Additionally, if you have enough channels for each aileron (for flaperons), if you can put each elevator stab on it's own channel, you can mix in elevons/tailerons (or whatever they're called) which give you much better roll control at slow speeds than just ailerons. I've done this on my F16 as well as my SU-27 and Mig 29 and it works much better than just ailerons at slow speed. On the F16, I mixed it on a 3 position switch, giving no tailerons, or 50% or 75%. Mig is 100% all the time.

Think about having those 2 things done, easy to set up and will help greatly in take off and landing.

                        • I know this is the ver.2 thread, but I acquired a ver 1 T-bird. It needs a lot of tlc. Found out all of the wing mounts, fuse and the wings are broke. I know you can get replacement parts, but I thought they were molded in. Anybody have any experience replacing them? Or should I salvage what I can and pitch the foam? Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

Dirty Dee I saw your file on cults. Would it work? The attachment points just look a little far back.

First I lose my Freewing 90mm F-18 on the maiden. Uncontrollable, got away from me and crashed in thick woods about a half a mile away. Tried to locate with my drone to no avail. I decided to get the bad taste out of my mouth so I went to fly my recently painted 90mm F-16 V2 (hauntingly in retrospect, a fantasy Blue Angels livery). The maiden was great, just needed to trim her out. So today was going to be trim the flight. Usual pre-flight checklist, everything normal, battery secure, CG good, control surfaces all good, power good.

Took off on the recently mowed grass field, she started pulling to the right getting close to the edge of the runway but with enough left rudder she kicked back out and then rotated. Almost imediately I could tell it wanted to pitch up and roll to the right. I fought the sticks with all I could, jamming aileron stick full left but it ignored my inputs and nosed in.

Two new 90mm jets in one week.

At least I was able to retrieve it, broken front and all. Front LG is bent all to hell aft, will need major repairs from the cockpit forward, but from the cockpit back it's pretty much fine, just a little cosmetic damage on the H stabs. And like the F-18, I have NO idea what happened. After the Walk of Shame, I put it on the bench and plugged the battery in (thankfully the 8S battery was undamaged), and everything worked normally. All control surfaces, everything.

You ever have those days you feel like quitting the hobby, or at least jets? That's how I've felt this week.
Had several like that totaled a 90 F15 not a clue and 2 70 Raptors in one day. Thankfully the V2 90 F16 didn’t disappoint but I get your pain, I have fully rebuilt converted to 8s remaiden I have no idea was not the same plane. Finally yesterday I said the hell with it do or die spent the whole day working her back out. Ended up having to scrap and factory reset the AR8360t finally after 5 flights she’s back to around 90% I do have the reduced nozzles that I’m going to remove think they choke her down on 8s. Pick your head up and head back out Sir
