  • Hello, I have a question about the UBEC. Since I couldn't find any information in the manual, I'm assuming it just supplies the receiver with power as usual, and that I remove the positive wire from the connectors on both controllers and only plug the signal and negative wires into the control board, right?

No. Those ESCs are "opto". They have no BECs in them. Those red wires aren't powered. No need to do anything with them.

      • So, should I just plug the external UBEC into the receiver and the two cables from the ESC into the control board?
Won't I then have a short circuit because the ESC gets power from the LiPo and also from the receiver?

First let's make sure we're talking about the same thing.
          1. The UBEC gets plugged into any channel in your RX. If there's an empty channel, plug it in there. If there is not an empty channel, use a "Y" and plug it into any channel, minding your polarity. If you're using Spektrum, the "bind/battery" port is usually empty after you've bound it.
          2. When you're talking about the "two cables" from the ESCs, are you talking about the "throttle" lines? If so, "Y" those two together and those go into the throttle channel of your RX.
          3. If you're talking about the 2 "reverse" wires coming from the ESCs, those can be "Y'd" together and go into any empty channel where you assign a switch so you can reverse the motors.

I think you are confusing yourself unnecessarily. The ESCs get power from the LiPo BUT that is for powering the motors. The external BEC gets power from the LiPos BUT is then scaled down to about 5 - 6 volts to power the RX directly.
Look at this image from RC Castle:
With Reverse Brake mode enabled when landing can effectively shorten the sliding distance of the aircraft to simulate the landing of a real aircraft !  - Extremely low internal resistance.- Super smooth and accurate throttle linearity.- Size: 86 x 37 x 13mm ( Lx W

It shows what is in your A-10. Look at the first picture that shows the fronts of the 2 ESCs. It says "No UBEC". That's means those red wires have no power. They are just place holders.
Now, look at the second picture that shows the whole ESC, UBEC, set up. See the UBEC? That's wired in near the blue EC5 plugs where your LiPo batteries plug in. If you can blow up the picture enough to see the wires come out of the ESC's and look closely at the throttle cables. Those actually have 4 wires each. 3 of them end in a servo plug that goes into the throttle channel. They are only powered to the extent that it carries the throttle signal, NOT BEC power. Then you see a single wire that runs along each triple wire. That ends in a servo plug with just a single wire. It's also a "signal" wire to control reverse. It also does NOT have power, only a signal. Y the throttle leads from the ESC and plug into throttle channel of RX. Y the reverse leads and plug that into an empty channel that you assign to a switch. Remember that single wire is a "signal" wire. Make sure it goes into the signal pin in the Y and then into the RX.

          • Hi, first of all, thanks for the help.
The wiring is clear so far, I was just surprised that, as you said, the red wire from the ESC doesn't carry any voltage. I'm only familiar with the fact that when you install an external BEC, you have to remove the red wire from the ESC from the servo connector.

"Opto" ESCs do NOT have BECs within, thus, the red wire does nothing. Even if they do have BECs, so long as both ESCs are identical in brand and size (in a twin motor applications), you can still leave both red wires intact and Y them together.

              • In the old days if you were using ESCs with an internal BEC with another ESC with an internal BEC or with an external BEC you had to. Now we have switching BECs that work well together.

                • So, i just got my V2 from Motion and I was expecting the blue SLIME lights ( I even had some yellow clear tape ready to go ) but much to my surprise they are now perfect SLIME GREEN. I need to see if someone else mentioned this in the forum or if this new batch got the right lights in them!

Yep, it was mentioned that it was being rectified after first batch.

Oh good to know they did fix that issue, I hate to say it but I sold mine mainly because of those blue lights, I just couldn't overlook that problem for some reason...

                        • Well, my V1 A10 bit the dirt today. Rolled right and tucked in, straight in. ! Total lack of any control and only 30 seconds into the flight. It seems its now time to buy the V2. Loved the sound and power of the V1 so Im just going to buy the ARF version and transplant the V1 power system into the V2. Read through this forum and doesnt seem like I will regret the purchase.

Very Nice! How about a pic of that F22 desert you're holding in your Avatar. Looking for some ideas for my F22, when I get one. 🤣 Can't go stock with anything and already have a couple suspects in mind.

                              • There's a couple of pics on my page in the other forum if you go there and click on me. I still fly it and could take more but those 6 year old pics are pristine. It has a little rash now, not too bad though. I think it was a pic from GTA or something like that that inspired me.

                                • I just checked the Motion site and see that no parts for A10 V1 are no longer listed. Has anyone got an idea on what parts could be interchangeable with V1? I just remaiden my V1 today that i originally bought in 2017 and opened, assembled and flew at the field same day during the EDF Jet Jam event that year. I did a clean setup on my X20S from the JR X11 and added a S8R stab receiver and using 90mm Cg with stacked RT 6250ma batts. More flights to come at the EDF Jet Together event in southern IN this weekend.

I seem to recall that there is not much that is interchangeable between the original and V2, however, have you checked here?

They seem to have a lot of parts still. However, I don't know what the situation is with respect to tariffs on stuff from China to USA. In Canada, there are no tariffs for stuff coming to here from China.

I just had a look at MotionRC. It shows 3 pages of spare parts for the A-10 V1.

                                    • I finally flew mine over the weekend and have never been so nervous about flying an RCplane but it was very easy. I went with 9 bladed outrunners but it seems a bit under powered on the claim out so ordered the 13 blade inrunners.

I take it that you got the ARF+ and put your own 9-bl fans in? The PNP come with inrunner 12-blades. Where are you getting 13-blade fans from?
