  • So T.I. hope you had a great vacation. Any input on the spring removal/cut/rebend/and reinstall would be much appreciated. I got one off by removing the hinge pin and managed to cot it down and rebend but how did you manage to reattach it without damaging the plane ? Brad

I used a small phillips screwdriver to pry the spring off and back on the hook. I cut one coil off the mains then used pliers to bend the next coil down to catch the hook, on the nose I cut 3/8" off the spring and reinstalled it.

      • Thanks guys for the kind words. It's truly an easy mod. The dones are little pricey after you factor in shipping, but at least you have plenty of extra for other projects or more A-10's LOL.

I did both Mav's this morning. Took a whole 10 minutes, ha-ha. Can't dislike that type of ease, huh. :)

Very nice, I've ordered some to do mine also.

          • Back on the subject earlier of cooling the batteries getting more airflow through that area I installed a functional fuel refueling port with a hole but needed an exit hole to get more air out of the plane so I use the APU hole on the left side of the plane which is only about an inch and a half thick opens up to a lower channel Click image for larger version Name:	20170719_183516.jpg Views:	1 Size:	36.6 KB ID:	88243Click image for larger version Name:	20170719_182937.jpg Views:	1 Size:	36.7 KB ID:	88244 that runs the length of the plane to the front I had a perfect round plastic sleeve that I glued in place to reinforce the whole painted the inside black I hope this works along with all the other openings on the bottom of the plane.

The refueling port came out great man. Nice job!

Great info but how did you get the spring back onto the hook?

I pried it back on with the screwdriver.

                  • Love the cooling intake embedded in the refueling port. Disguised very well. My RT 5800's get pretty warm after a 3.5 min sortie, especially when the ambient temp is 100.

                    • Day 362:

Well...I'm done with the A-10...after several good flights and landing I thought I had this bouncing crap figured out and about an hour ago it bit me again. I'm going to fix her one more time then I'm getting rid of it, out of 16 flights I've had to work on the nose gear 4 times with this last time being the worst so far. I just can't enjoy a plane that I'm not comfortable with...it's just got too narrow of a sweet spot on landings for my liking.

                      • oh man, Im sorry to hear that..I feel ya on the sweet spot too... I can get it perfect when theres no wind, but when there is..thats when I had a hard time finding that sweet spot to keep it from bouncing...its like a different plane when theres wind blowing.

Wow, that's hot, you may be cooking those batteries, do what you can to cool them

Wow, hate to see that kind of damage. Do you have any flight video we can look at, I'm no expert but maybe some of us can help you with your landings?? Just a thought....

                                • So my first maiden didn't go so well. Wing tip stall. Alls left was tail section and the engine section. Lots of servos and gear. I have a 300 ft runway that is made out of heavy duty landscape material. Fw16 with flaperon and T45 no problem. Is this enough length for the A10. I just order another and don't want the same results. Thanks.

                                  • Oh the stall came on the departure end of runway. I pulled back a little so it was flat and climbing then just rolled hard right so fast I could not correct.

It's just getting the energy just right...I've had several perfect landings but if it's not dead on perfect it's "Ride'em Cowboy!".

I fly mine off of a 270' Geotex runway. So you actually tip stalled it?
