First, congratulations on a successful maiden and followup flight. Second, thanks for the info on the spring removal and replacement. I assume you removed the strut from the plane since you put it in a vise. I'm not sure what you mean by grabbing the spring coil above the hook and the hook itself. Also, if you removed the strut, you must have carefully removed the painted plastic "cowl" to get at the grub screw to remove the strut from the retract pin. .thanks, BradOriginally posted by Pogo View Post
Hi Brad- yes the spring needs to come off the hook, but can be left on the pin. Here's what I did (it's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it.)
1) Put the strut pin in a vice (use hardwood or something on the jaws so the pin doesn't get marred) to secure the strut. It stays in the vise for all the following.
2) Use a pair of substantial needle nose pliers (with serrations on the jaw tips) and grab the spring coil above the hook and the hook itself with the very tips of the pliers. Squeeze, and with the help of a slot screwdriver pry the coil up and off the hook.
3) Getting the spring back on back on is easier. Place the tip of a slot screwdriver through the coil and just onto the tip of the hook and pry back. Voila!
(Wear eye protection and don't stab yourself!) Hope this helps.

Yes, I skipped that step- the retract certainly needs to come out of the wing. The cowls come off easily. I can't take a picture right now but if you had it in front of you I think you'd see what I mean as regards removing the spring..Originally posted by downwindleg View Post

I may have come up with a bounce fix, I switched the struts from one side to the other...they still have straight up and down suspension but don't catapult. There's a little milling (filing) to be done on the "new" front side of the retract to match the other side,, just continue the dropped edge around to the other side and "V" out the retract plate a little on the open end. I hope this makes sense.
I just put four flights on the A-10 and the last two I dropped it a little hard and only the nose wheel bounced a little.

OK, here are how my Mavericks and Pave Penny turned out with the 7/8" and 1" domes.Originally posted by T-CAT View PostA few pages back, I posted an image of what a 22mm acrylic dome looks like on the AGM-65 without cutting the dome. The dome is just too round to work well, especially in that size, at least to look more realistic. The AGM-65 has a very shallow window unlike the shape of a dome. An ellipse is more of the shape that is necessary to look more realistic. However, the ellipses sold by the same company are solid all the way through and not hollow like the inside of the domes they sell. That's not a huge deal, but you would have to drill into it to place anything in the ellipse or put something on the foam part of the AGM-65, and glue the ellipse on top. It's not as good of an image as the dome, more of an illusion, but the ellipse seems to lay on top better and look more realistic. I will post some pictures of what the 22mm ellipse looks like installed with a quick paint job of the foam underneath. The shape is better.
Hopefully RCdude will get his installed as well to see what the cut down 25mm dome looks like, as they may work well.

:)Dang it! I was going for the record of being the last one to maiden from the first run! :)Originally posted by Pogo View Post
Anthony, beautiful job, and I really enjoyed your video! You're not, however, the last of the first group to maiden, as mine hasn't flown as yet (it's a long story....) Soon though.
Anyway, congrats!! :Cool::Cool:

Thanks Dave!Originally posted by dahawk View PostCongrats Anthony! One fantastic maiden and a successful maiden smile to go with it. Headed out to our field late in the day( hot) for flights 18 & 19. Scott will maiden Avanti.
Getting a pair of RT 6250 35C's from Andy(rcjetwerx.com) to push the 5 min mark. Unlike some other edf's in my squadron, once airborne, I want to stay airborne for as long as I can with the A-10.
Cheers,
Hawk( fellow Texan)
let me know if those 6250's fit with the canopy completely closing. I tried to fit 2 new Wild Scorpion 5500's and the canopy wouldn't completely close.

I was was wanting to avoid the grass if possible. You never know what hole may be lurking. :Scared:
