Official Freewing Twin 80mm/90mm A-10 Thunderbolt II Thread

I have 300 ft to land at my house, and I would NOT fly the A-10 there, ever!!! For what it is worth...

Last week i made the mains MOD (invert) in my A-10 and this sunday i had a small spare time (due the mothers day celebration) and made three flights to be able to test the results…i wish to have more time to execute at least 10 flights and have more “material” to reach a good conclusion but for the time being, i felt that the plane is much more solid when touch the rwy, much less strong bounce effect.

Maybe i still prefer some suspension to reduce a possible future structure stress (heavy plane) in the harder landings but it´s seemed better in comparison with the stock plane.

*PS- I cut some coils from the nose gear spring as well.

Below a small and simple video of the last flight…some low passes, looping and landing.

Yeah, 100 ft feet is very possible for takeoff w/TO flaps. But landing? Eek ? Do you have to clear a fence? Pretty tight

Thanks guys. And yes dkal, Tommy does great camera work. Albeit, he admitted to being a bit nervous on the second landing approach, probably more than me lol, hence a little shake. Getting steady shoots when zoomed in is really hard, and he does a great job at it.

Also love the way he claps, making the camera jump all over the place lol :D

Amazing Jan! Following your turbine conversion coupled with some talks with dlxpkg has got me started on the path for saving to get a turbine the next year or 2. No FW conversion in my plans, but definitely a turbine A-10 somewhere down the line :)

Turbines are a lot of fun. When they work lol

Two more flights today, but had a slightly hard landing on the second one (nothing much, just slight) and this stalled one of the engines. Known to happen so nothing too special about that, but what kinda sucks is that it flooded the turbine a bit and prevented me from relighting it for more flights. Oh well, drying it up tonight and trying again tomorrow :D

Just in case any of you have ever wondered what the internal structure of the A-10 wing really looks like. It took me over an hour to get all the foam from around it, it was glued together that well. The wing is actually molded in two parts; upper and lower panels, and then glued to this structure.

Let me tell you, this is one wing that will NEVER fold up in flight. And in case you're wondering, this wing was from the A-10 I crashed back in February. The wing itself actually had a crack in the foam, but the interior structure was undamaged.

I sure do know what those parts are after the infamous eWEEK midair and the subsequent tree incursion ;)
I tried to salvage those carbon fiber tubes but didn't have as many as you have Pat cause the tree was a little hungry. LOL
I do concur with ya that is one wing that will never fold in flight during hard yank and banks.:Cool:
I've also seen some comments about concerns of gear possibly being pushed through top of wing during hard landings.
Just isn't gonna happen unless it is a "hard landing" from a 20 ft vertical drop.

So Dirty Dee, did you do the ejection seat and the cockpit? For those of us who are 3-D illiterate, what is the path to obtaining those parts? Cost? Rob
