I have a couple of the HSD 105mm F-16 and the oil is too thinckk in them as well so I'm going to try 200 in one of them and see if it softens it.

    HeyTI,
I suspect that not only can you play with the wt (eg 200K) of the diff fluid but also the amount. I was going to try to use less (so lots of air pockets) of the 500K in the strut to see if I could soften it up a little to see if I like it more.

      • Had to put a few decals on the fuselage just to see how they would look.

        • Awesome! I love the various nose art that’s found on the A-10. It fits the plane’s personality perfectly.

                • Wow. Thanks guys. you're all way too kind. It's one of those 50/50 paint jobs where at 50 feet and at least 50 mph, nobody will spot my sloppy paint brush work. ;)

                      • Hi Gang...so I maidened yesterday. I had 3 sussessful flights and will have pictures and video shortly.

I did not have the experience many of you had however. I started with the CG at 84mm and the batteries pushed as far aft as I could without stacking. The plane felt mushy and on each of the two consecutive flights I moved them slowly forward. The flight characteristics improved but I could see the negative effect on the ability to land. I was on low rates and they were still way too hot. I dialed down both elevator and aileron on every flight and still not where I want to be.

I was having something that caused the plane to want to bank to starboard. It made it feel like it was on the edge of going into a roll and spin and I was fighting to keep it from stalling. I noticed as I was building that there was a lot of difference in the two sides of the elevator...when I was measuring the throws one would be much different than the other when fully engaged and the hinge seemed loose had a lot of play at one end. I'm wondering if it was acting like an aileron causing the plane to bank. I'll have to study that one more.

Overall I'm happy I avoided any disaster ( on the 3rd flight I had so many go-arounds I ran out of battery and had to land with the wind. Made it with the grace of God). It sounded great with the whistles and it looks great. But I have a lot of work to do to figure out what is going on that is causing it to fight itself!

Does anyone have a set of the blue lightning bolt stickers For the vertical stab I could purchase? Rob

Good to hear Rob. PM me your address and I will send you my lightening bolt stickers no charge. Check the position of the push rods for your elevators on both the servo and elevator horns. They should be the same. A difference of deflection between both sides will have an adverse effect on its flight.

                          • A couple more details before I forget. Wind was 3-5 with a slight cross. Take offs went okay. It does need a lot of roll out to build up speed and once when the jet windmilled and I had to rotate sooner than expected it was dicey.

I played with the taxi a bit after the first flight and noticed a much better turn radius going port. When I adjusted the nose wheel I saw there was a spring on the port side and I'm thinking that will affect the steering sensitivity.

The setup for the up elevator built in ended up being too much. I went with elevator even with the dimple instead of just below because I wanted to be sure to be able to get bigh alpha on landing. It was too much, especially with the CG so far back.

Thanks Steve...I'll check the rods! And thanks for the stickers! You have been a great help! Rob

                              • Way to get it done Rob. You pulled the nose up at just the right time. Love that paved runway and the length of it as well. Looks like your covered pit area would be a great place to knock back an in and out burger!!! Cheers to your friend Larry for the great video. That one guy makes a bad window on approach.LOLBrad
