By the way, what about the throws you're using?
    Cheers
Well, my bird is put up for the winter so it would be difficult to measure the throws right now - but I don't believe I changed much. Use the settings in the manual as a good starting point for all the surfaces. I set the flaps to go down as far as physically possible, and then some extra as I mentioned before. I use full flaps for landing, and about 20% flaps for takeoff.

Personally, I prefer a little extra aileron throw to provide more "zing" in the roll performance. At first the elevator seemed to need more as well, but that was because it was nose heavy and pushing the batteries back solved that problem. I use 25% expo on all of my planes as a starting point because it helps provide smooth realistic flights. I used extra expo on the rudder channel to smooth the steering. I am using a 3-second slowdown on the flaps.

The elevator needs to be set with a little bit of "up" trim as I'm sure you've seen on this thread on earlier posts.

No doubt there are a number of Squawkers who are angry that I am not enthusiastically recommending TI's lg modification. Don't get me wrong, from what I can tell it sounds like the mods are very helpful. With some concern about the pin, I ordered an extra nose gear just in case! But just like tclaridge, I've found that I've had no issues with bouncing - I bring my Hog in nice and slow with the flaps hanging out, it floats like a butterfly and touches down mains first, with the nose a bit up, and it doesn't bounce regardless of the surface I'm on (grass, geotex, or pavement). It really is a sweetheart. The key for me was using full flaps to help it slow down - and keep the nose up just like the full-size planes do.

    Merry Christmas! - Marc

      • Hopefully going to see this bird in person for the first time tomorrow, meeting up with a fellow flyer down here in Fl, I have been looking at this A-10 since it has been out but have not been able to pull the trigger on one, Well X-mas is here and this just may be my X-Mass present to my self. Reading on the few mods that some have done, main strut switcharooo and some filling the nose gear with some grease to help slow down the rebound to keep from the bucking bronco. I have to do more searching reading on doing a 90mm upgrade, want to make sure that doing that would be worth it and see if the ones that have are saying it is a worthwhile up grade. Any way looking forward to finally seeing the A-10 fly tomorrow.

        • The 80mm has so much punch, it is just amazing... Vertical is crazy, at least on mine!!! Ask RCJETDUDE, (Steve) He has the 90 conversion done.....So he knows the real story!!! :-)

          • I'll throw in too that the 80mm stock version has plenty of punch, and the upgrade is not a necessity. Do it only if you wish to.

            • Good to hear that stock form is performing well may be rcjetdude will chime in and say some thing as to his opinion on the 80mm vs 90mm

              • The twin 80 does have good power. Enough to push my 16lb. decked out Euro Green bird through the air without much difficulty. Initially, I thought the 90's would be overkill but the difference between 9 blade and 12 blade I think minimized that. The 12 blade 90's do sound different, quieter, and I do notice more power but that could also be due to the weight difference. Overall I love them both but I think I can relax more while flying the 90's because of the extra power they provide. The twin 90 is a beast of a Hawg and a shear joy to fly with good power to do the climbing, juking maneuvers that the A-10 is so well known for. If you have the fans and ESC's it's a no brainer. If you have to buy them that can cost as much as the plane itself.

On a side note, I recently contributed the complete cockpit and canopy as well as the stowable ladder from my green bird to the A-10 project that Brandon Moon is building for Kelly Leggette. Kelly is a former A-10 pilot and just a great guy. I had the privilege of being there when Michael Lovero presented an A-10 to Kelly at Joe Nall and then got to fly with Kelly at eWeek. I have since replaced the cockpit with a stock unit that I just need to repaint and filled in where the ladder was. While the green one flies good I wanted to shed some weight. With the sound card and powder canon it is more of a show bird.

Don't need to do anything to the A-10, it flies awesome right out of th box and is one sweet suey hog to fly. It will float in with full flaps and flare nicely and reward you with a smile, no need to upgrade anything or mod it, buy it and fly it and you will see, it's all in the flare..............!!:)

                      • Remember ‘Warbirds over Grapevine’ when Capt Mike took it vertical and performed a Lomcevak ? That was awesome. I think we were running with a pair of RT 5800 35C’s.

                        Lots of punch

                        • Almost 3 flights on this one today bringing it to 45 and 3/4. The third flight today was the last one for the gray ghost. Pure pilot error on my part. I started a descending turn and poured the coals to it for a "blister pass" and was further out than my (lack of) depth perception was seeing. The left wing caught a tree limb and stayed there. The right wing and fuselage traveled another 50 meters or so (150 feet for us US people) before making contact with the ground and disintegrating.
Now I have to decide if I want to replace it with an ARF plus or wait and see what is next in the pipeline from Motion & Freewing. I have heard rumors of something new on the horizon and with this one gone have an available space to put it. I still have my twin 90 peanut camo to fly so not in a rush to do anything yet.

                          • Sorry to see that.... I came in hot one evening and thought I could make it, but the starboard wing caught the metal pipe fence post. I missed it by 9 inches.... Or hit it by 9 inches, depending on which way you look at it... Mine looked almost like yours!!!! LOL Number 2 is on the table right now!! God Bless and Merry Christmas!!! The Peanut will take up the slack!! Jerry

                            • This one was pretty spectacular. I really wish someone had been shooting video. It would be in my next "mishaps" video. I was in a full power descending turn for a hot pass and it was looking good right up until the left wing caught the branch. Loud too as it ripped it's way through. There is a lot on inertia effect in this bird.I think that's one of the reasons it flies so well and you can squeeze some good flight times into it. (also the reason the fuselage tail section, and right wing traveled another 150 feet before hitting the ground and pretty much exploding)
I sure can't fault the plane it was all on me. I've been having trouble with an eye infection and my depth perception kind of sucks right now.

                              • Well, look at the bright side, lots of spare parts for the next one if you decide to go that route. Spare servos are always a great thing anyway.
If you get another one, the wings are a good thing to keep in case you have to cut a section of damage out of the new ones, you have the old ones to replace it with.

Even more important, I freed up some space for something new. How 'bout it Motion and Freewing, drop us a sexy big Phantom in the 2018 lineup. Or even a big F-22. OK Santa you have my wishlist. :P

Hawk, I thought I'd just put all the pieces and a bottle of glue in a bag, shake it up and see what comes out. LOL

I can't wait for the landing gear upgrades to arrive. Came in too steep and fast again for another bouncy landing.

                                          Give it a try.
