Has anyone taken a part of the plane to a store like Home Depot to get an exact paint match for each color gray? If so, do you have pictures of the paint codes generated?

Type in Paint Match in the search, and it will show you one of the guy pics with codes. BillyOriginally posted by T-CAT View PostHas anyone taken a part of the plane to a store like Home Depot to get an exact paint match for each color gray? If so, do you have pictures of the paint codes generated?

Thanks Billy. I did see those pictures, but in the post he mentions bringing in Model Masters enamel paint in to get paint matched instead of taking in a part of the plane to get scanned. That worries me as it may not be an exact match, although it may be close. Who knows though, it may be close enough to the eye that nobody could ever distinguish the difference.

G'day boys,
Meet the RAAF's latest acquisition, the awesome freewing a-10. Primarily tasked with keeping the kiwis out of Australia, it'll also be used to help keep the wombats under control... :)
Finally got a break from all the rain, and with another series of big storm fronts forecast for the rest of the week, I couldn't stand staring at it any longer - so ditched work to go down to the club today and maiden this beauty. Just got home. What a little ripper. I love it. Only got two flights in, but no dramas at all, it flies beautifully. (And no bouncy landings thank god, even did a couple of touch and goes for good measure and no worries). Yep, of course I got vid, I'll edit it up asap and post.
As most of you know, this is my first custom schemed plane, so I was extremely nervous as I'd be devastated if I broke it on maiden after all this work, but it's like everyone has said, it flies easy as. I was worried about cg also as I was using the big turnigy graphenes stacked on top of each other, but again no worries. Maiden was just a touch nose heavy, second flight moved the top battery back a bit and got it pretty spot on. (Thanks tcat for your help with the battery position for the graphenes mate). Elevator ended up being just under those nodule thingys for hands-off level flight. Rudder and elevator are at max throws, but I did dial the ailerons down to 80%. Expo 20% on ailerons and 25% on the tail, but after taxi tests I upped the rudder to 35% as it's a bit steering sensitive with max throws.
Anyway, just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone here on the squawk who answered all my posts and pm's about this project. Really appreciate all the help, THANK YOU. I really enjoyed this plane today and maiden flights were smooth as silk, thanks to the info you guys post and share. Good onyas. Thanks also alpha and the team at motion and freewing for making such a awesome plane. (Love the bigger stuff, keep em coming please).
Heres a few pics from today, hope you guys like it. Maiden vid soon. Cheers fellas. :)

As was said, I took in to Home Depot model masters paints with the FS numbers 36320 and 36375 for the original ghost light and dark colors. I'll show the pics of those codes, but they are NOT intended to be a match to the stock color the plane comes painted in. Hey, thanks very much fellas. Much appreciated. Lots of you guys were my inspiration for giving this a go, I see so many nice custom schemes on the different threads. Most of the scheme was done by one of my mates so I can't really take any credit, though I did do a bit of the painting and weathering myself to start learning how to do it. I'm keen to do more now lol. (But gotta say, fun as it was to do, its still waaay more fun to be flying em). Really looking forward to getting some more stick time on her, she looks awesome in the sky. Cheers boys. :)

Ya, lets not fall in love with these fantastic paint jobs we've all have done. I've seen many of men cry over the loose of a jet before. So lets fly like we stole it and just don't care !Originally posted by Shirty View PostHey, thanks very much fellas. Much appreciated. Like my friend Tim Reddelman , told me once just before on my first turbine power jet flight.........Take her out to the runway,........point her into the wind............give it full power.......... count to six.............pull back on the stick ..........and...........I'll help you pick up the pieces buddy. What a buddy, but the flight went perfect.BVM Bandit, EFlite Carbon Z T-28, EFlite Carbon Z Cub, EFlite Promethus, FW Avanti S, FW A-10 ThunderBolt, FW P-51 Mustang, EFlite Convergance, EFlite Carbon Z Cessna 150, EFlite Habu, EFlite Styker Q-F27, HSD Navy Super Viper

T-CAT, here's a photo of the paint I got but unfortunately I cleverly wrote over it :Silly:. i think I just took in a wing pylon- could you do the same?Originally posted by T-CAT View PostThanks Billy. Thanks Tom! I truly appreciate it. This helps for sure, and gives a great starting point. I'll likely bring in some nacelles as it looks to have the top being the darker gray with the bottom a lighter gray. I'll post the numbers and a pic of the paint jar to compare.Originally posted by Pogo View Post
