Finished adding crew members in front and top turret and hooking up servos in each; front to the rudder channel and top to the ailerons as I only have a 6 channel transmitter. I got the 3D parts, which are very detailed, but couldn't get my crew members to fit in properly. Figures in the front turret and especially the top that somewhat resembled the size of the pilots were too big when putting the 3D turret parts in, so for now I used the base materials and figures I found at Toys R Us, with a little repainting (the top figure is actually a star wars storm trooper with some things removed and repainted). Flying it again tomorrow, so this will have to do for now until I start working on my extra nose and cockpit with the 3D parts and different figures. The only bomber crews I could find online were either 1/32 scale (way too small, they looked like midgets compared to the pilots) or 1/18 scale which were too big to fit in the turrets. The pilots head alone for size won't even fit in the top turret. Loved Clearblue's pilots, only wish I could find them for my second cockpit version with the 3D parts (or talk him into building out a cockpit for me, hah), so for now using figures similar to the ones I put in the front turret. Added the sound card as well and you can see the video with the sound and operating turrets on the link I've attached in the next post. Happy Flying, hope the wind is light tomorrow, hate landing this thing in a cross wind.
I got my spare props, but noticed Motion is once again out of props. We must be feeding them to the bears!7 PhotosHugh "Wildman" Wiedman

Yes, I do know that, I'm just early alzheimers. Was also working on my 1700mm Spitfire changing out the stock wheels with rubber Hanger 9 wheels to fly tomorrow also and was preoccupied with thinking of that plane.Originally posted by Hardway View PostVery cool!!!! Hugh your bird looks spectacular! I found them on line. But they quickly sold out. I'll include the link so you can see which ones I used. Every once in a while you can find them on eBay, but they aren't that cheap. Hopeful you have a very pleasant maiden! Interested in hearing your post maiden report. https://ww2toys.net/WWII-AAF-P-51-Mu...ure-V54686.htm

You can also turn these guys into gunners. I found them at Toys R Us for around $13.

Those are the same ones I used in my front turret, also from Toys R Us. You can see them in the photos I posted on #1167. For the top turret, used a little smaller figure, also from Toys R Us, but this was a Storm Trooper-had to cut a lot off it and repaint it so it didn't look ridiculous. I almost put the "rocket Raccoon" in from Guardians of the Galaxy, it fit perfect, but at the last minute I bailed on that. The 3D parts for the front turret make it difficult to use these figures, but I think they are a good size.

Jim, flew it today in a very gusty crosswind, but it wasn't the maiden, just the first time with the operating turrets. The sound system with the multi-engine pack sounded great. Everyone at the field came to the edge of the runway to watch (1st B-24 at our field), even the high end Jet guys. Flew it 4 times and this time I wasn't as nervous as the first few times and noticed that it flies much smoother on the stated low rates. Now use those as my mid rates and even a little less on the low. You really need to steer this thing with the rudder, using the opposite ailerons to keep it somewhat flat with a little up elevator. It tracks very well on take-off, even in a cross wind, and lands nice and smooth (used only 1/2 flaps since we had gusting 17mph winds). I'm still not that great with landings, after 4 years and maybe 300 flights with all manner of planes, but this is the easiest plane to land in my fleet. Makes me look like I know what I'm doing until they see my landings with the 1700mm P-51 and Corsair.Originally posted by Clearblue View PostHugh your bird looks spectacular! I found them on line. One of the guys at the field took a nice video of about 8 minutes of one of the flights and sent it to me on WhatsApp. Don't know if I can upload it to You Tube so I can post it here, as I'm not the most technically savy guy, leave that to my teenage son and daughter. Any one know how I could post it?Hugh "Wildman" Wiedman

I used those guys in my front turret, and may also use them in the cockpit if I can't find Clearblue's pilots. I may have found them in some weird site called Clubwhole (although it looks a little sketchy). Ordered 2 of them, let's see if they ever get here. Just looked up WWII AAF P-51 Mustang Pilot 1:18 Scale Figure (ebay and the other legit sites were sold out as Clearblue mentioned). If these never come, I'll use the Toys R Us figures I already have and repaint them a bit for my redo of the cockpit with the 3D parts. May just use Groot and Rocket Raccoon!2 PhotosHugh "Wildman" Wiedman
