New FlightLine Corsair Owner's Association Members, It's easier this way...You cut out the Small One if you have the bubbly top and install the Large One as you would in the FlightLine Spitfire, i.e., tab towards the engine and flat roundy end up. You don't have to do anything if you have the 'birdcage'; as you can leave the small one for the birdcage. If I printed your parts, the small one comes in 2 parts, simply glue the back half to the front half and install the front instrument panel. That was my thoughts too but based on other photos I have seen I believe that is correct - again for this particular 3D set.Originally posted by themudduck View PostThank you Aros, that's what I assumed from looking at the part, but I can't help but think that it's upside down!

Wait, are we talking the gunsight? I am a bit confused which seems to be my default setting when it comes to technical details. For those of you who really want to learn about what the gun sights looked like, there's an amazing website which I've used to scratch build reasonable replicas. This link may take you directly to the USN page of reflector gunsights. The photos are of a particular gun sight used on the earliest P-51D's, which I made for a 1450mm Mustang P-51D-5, going from photos on this website.

Good to know but if MRC doesn't have "Coupon Codes" why do they have a field at checkout asking for a "Coupon Code"? MRC must provide them somewhere or at sometime right?Originally posted by Aros.MotionRC View PostSorry we don't have any coupon codes. And beware of any external site that says otherwise, it's a scam.

Page 37. Post #736 are pictures of the early versus late gunsights. If you need more pictures or drawings let me know.Originally posted by themudduck View PostGuys, I am really stumped on this - regarding the 3D printed cockpit parts. I can't figure out the gunsight.
I haven't been able to find many pictures of the real thing - the Corsairs we see these days don't have it.
From what I've been able to see, it looks like there was a reflector panel in front of the gunsight that angles back toward the pilot. The top of the gunsight is supposed to be a flat circle (that's where the lens is).
The instrument panel part seems to have an angled support for the missing reflector panel. But, there is a separate gunsight part that you get with the 3D set, and it looks to me like I'd have to completely remove the center part of the instrument panel to put it in. The separate gunsight part obviously should NOT be glued on top of the original instrument panel part. Because - from the pic I found (below), the bottom half of the gunsight sits below the top edge of the instrument panel.
So it seems to me like the separate gunsight is supposed to replace the less-detailed thing that's sitting in the center of the instrument panel.
What do you guys think, how is the separate gunsight part supposed to be installed?

Thanks for this pic!!!!! It's a tight fit huh? I'm molding a shallow thin piece of foam to the rear of the dash and blacking that out. I'm doing some tricks I learned a few years back to add, "Glass" to the gauges, and using a micro LED going to illuminate the rear so the controls give the appearance of lighting up when powered on. I can send status updates on how I accomplish this or blog it if anyone is interested!Originally posted by Aros.MotionRC View PostThis is the way it should look at least for this 3D cockpit kit...
Are the dials on your cockpit a sticker that you simply adhered to the foam? And put the 3d cockpit over it?

OK thanks a lot guys, this is what I thought - this confirms that my hunch was correct - unfortunately Aros's picture shows the later-model gunsight attached on top of the earlier "birdcage" gunsight, upside-down!Originally posted by Ole-Timer View Post
The larger gun site is for later model Corsairs. You would have to remove the attached one to use the big one. I will only speak of the small one that’s attached as it applies to my F4U-1 Birdcage.
I'm going to cut the early one out and install the later-model one, I'll post pictures later on when I am done.

I finished the tire n wheel upgrade to my Birdcage plus completed the basic build for any possible maiden. I always do an amp test and run things through a few times. As I expected, amp draw was very light given the 6s power system. Half throttle was 18 amp and two thirds was 30 amp. WoT was around 60 amp. With my 8000mAh battery I’ll get 14 minute flights at half n 2/3...
Now that the new tires are on the stock ones look ridiculously small by comparison.
Stock MRC photo.
Verses the upgraded 3 3/4 inch Robarts.
