    • Howdy Everyone…

I wanted to update the Squawk on our efforts to help Ben (AkumaZeto - Pilot Painting Service).

We had five pledges for gift cards and one pledge for airplanes NIB to donate! And I provided the rest via Pay Pal.
The total gift cards were for 150.00, 100.00, 100.00, 50.00, 50.00. The guys are great an some want to stay anonymous, so no names!! LOL

The Birdcage Corsair has already shipped, along with an extra prop hub and propeller blades.

The two (2) Admiral 5000 batteries where ordered about 30 minutes ago and will ship soon.

Our total donations to our brother Ben is $ 690.98!

Great job, and thanks to all who helped and supported this effort with your monetary/material contributions, as well as thoughts and prayers and words of encouragement.

Have a very happy, peaceful and blessed weekend all!!

I've learned that the whistle a P51 makes is because of the gun barrels… but on the Corsair the famous whistle was due to the intakes on the wing root for the supercharger, oil cooler, and intercooler.
This awesome video of a Corsair thrashing an airfield includes the whistle... its quite distinctive!

The model includes a vent for the intake, and I can hardly wait to see if it will whistle! (looking forward to spring....and a long dive!)

        • My Mr RC Sound system that is aboard my Corsair does have the whistle built in to the P&W sound bite and it does work well ! Does it in the dive but as based on a pitch sensitive gyro unfortunately also does on the climb.

          • I tested the cg today with the gear up and 5200 pack in there it was tail heavy but with the gear down it was about right maybe even slight nose heavy so i added the 2 extra weights in the cowl slot, now it is nose heavy with gear down and perfect with gear up. So be careful if you are flying without those 2 extra weights they give.

I'd love to hear how the engine sounds on a high speed pass. Can you capture that and post it?

                • Just finished up assembly on mine. The navigation lights seem to be on all the time, but there appears to be a landing light which is not on, I have not discovered a way to operate. I’m assuming it’s functional, but cosmetic?

                  Thanks,

I found that same tail heaviness with mine but I painted the belly and bottom of the wings white out to the outer gear doors and attributed some of it to that.

Seth how far aft was the CG on your model? I flew mine stock so far without the two extra weights and with gear up the CG only shifts aft about 3-4mm and flies just fine including some pretty radical aerobatics and slow flight. Nearly every Freewing, as well as FLRC model I have has what I would call a generous safe CG "range". The only FW.FLRC model I have that is a bit finicky about CG is the FW 90mm F-104. Conversely, the FW 80mm F-86 flies way better with the CG a good 20mm aft of the aft limit of what the manual states. All the FLRC prop planes have a decent "safe" CG margin.
With that said, we all "like" to find the CG of a particular model where it "feels" right.

The landing light is only supposed to come on when the gear is down. Mine works!

Welcome aboard!!! The landing light comes on when the gear is lowered. If it doesn't check your connection on the multi function blue box in the fuselage battery bay...

Man - The ideas and solutions we all get from our "collective" is a wonderful thing! Thanks for sharing.
I think they are only about an inch and a half long. I simply pushed the assembly into the foam in the back of the gun holes with a little zap a goo on the end of the tubing after pre- punching a pilot hole in there with a piece of control rod. The tubing is just the stiffening sleeve off of a small Parkzone pushrod, and the aluminum tube is out of a spare fuel stopper I had left laying around. It all fit together very snug. I do know that the scale guns are recessed further back in but I wanted to keep them a little more visible, but pushing them back in further is not a problem. I just think it looks better with something in the holes. The actual Skyhog Corsair's (I assume) fake guns can be viewed by search. They aren't recessed too much but might not look like the real ones did I suppose.

I'm using a standard Admiral 5000. I have it moved back a little ways otherwise the CG would be a little forward.

So do you think I should fly it first with just the 4 stock weight ballast and remove the 2 extra ones for my first flight?
